The Rich Mountain Textures Of The High Desert
In the Eastern side of the Cascade Mountain Range, you will find that the terrain changes. Gone is the rainy and evergreen forests. Here, you will enter the desert and summer daytime temperatures get up into the triple digits. The Yakima Valley and the Columbia River Valley can really be supper hot during the summer months. The nights though, are much cooler in these desert valleys.
Looming above the valleys are some of the most interesting mountains with very diverse rocky slopes. As you get higher, the temperatures will begin to cool, giving some relief from the super hot days of the valley below. The high desert is rich and diverse, providing many hours of hiking and it's own special encounter with nature. Many enjoy hiking these desert mountains, while others love to discover the many different types of rocks. The High Desert of Washington is like an extravagant painters canvas of some of the most beautiful rocky slopes on earth.

While often people are looking for flowers and color, the many weathered browns of the high desert are beautiful and intriguing.
Anytime is a wonderful time to visit the high desert in Washington. It really depends on what you want to see. If you are wanting to explore these mountain trails, then it is best during the late spring to early fall. In the winter, these beautiful high desert mountains will be covered with snow and ice. If you have never taken time for a high desert adventure, then this could be the perfect time for a new experience. There is lots of adventure in the high desert of Washington USA.
