Water that gives life
Water and thirst are like two sides of a coin. The profound symbolism of both concepts runs throughout the Bible. It begins in Genesis 1 and reaches the last chapter of Revelation: water can lead to lush vegetation, harvest and prosperity, and therefore blessings.
The bodies of water can also mean a judicial act of God:
The Flood destroyed all humanity so that only Noah and his family would survive.
Because the pharaoh in Egypt did not voluntarily free the Israelites from slavery, his whole army was buried under the waters of the Red Sea.
Under King Achab, a drought of three and a half years broke out because the people of God, despite the warning of the prophet Elijah, continued to worship foreign idols. James 5: 17-18
How much personal guilt leads to a spiritual drought in life, we learn from the book of Samuel. (1 Chronicle 14.3)
King David wanted Batseba. But Batseba was married to a soldier in his army. King David had many wives and also concubines. However, he summoned Batseba and slept with her, while her husband in his army fought for him. When Batseba became pregnant, the king wanted to subjugate the consequences of his adultery to his own husband. However, because this cloaking maneuver failed, King David gave the order to use Batseba's husband during the war to commit suicide. The Hetiter Urija died and David married the soldier's wife. 2Sam 11: 1-27
This adultery and murder caused David a spiritual drought. How much David suffered because his relationship with GOD was disturbed, he complains in psalms:
"The tongue sticks to my palate".
"My vitality withered like water in the heat of summer."
God makes no secret of how sad, even horrified he is, that his people have turned away from him:
"I, the freshwater spring, left it, and instead digs holes for the rainwater that is still cracked and can not contain the water." Jeremiah 2: 12-13
When Moses hit the rocks in the desert, the water poured out, so that people could quench their thirst. CHRIST was crucified in our name so that none of us would die of thirst, but all who believe in Him must be saved.
When the Israelites complained again of thirst, God commanded Moses to speak to the Israelites gathered with the rock. But Moses did not follow God's instructions and this time he also hit the rocks.
Because Moses did not follow God's instructions, he was not allowed to move to Canaan. (4 Mo 20:12)
CHRIST is the living spring that quenches our thirst and supplies us with the water of the HOLY SPIRIT. (Hebrews 9: 24-28) After the resurrection and ascension, CHRIST is present in all believers through HIS SPIRIT. He who believes in JESUS is connected with living water, HIS SPIRIT. We can talk to JESUS anytime, anytime, anywhere:
"When we ask something according to his will, he hears us." 1 John 5:14
Yes Brother, the reason why many souls in life are insatiable, is simply because they have not drunk from the inexhaustible source that our Lord Jesus Christ has.
