THE POWER OF ASSUMPTION.

After a hectic day at work, I had to prepared my dinner. In the process of it all, my mind was indiating a matter. I kept on meditating on it all through the time I was cooking. When I was done cooking, on the dinner table, my mind started thinking aloud on THE POWER OF ASSUMPTION.

I was informed on how assumption has caused great harm to the peaceful coexistence of people in the society, which has led to disintegration, strife, envy and bitterness. It has gotten so bad that things have fallen apart and the center cannot hold. Even the church is not left out.

Assumptions has ended relationships that was indeed instituted by God. Many youths wallow in pain of broken relationship, not because they are bad in themselves or their partner is wicked, but the power of assumption was the force that parted them both, just like the Red Sea was parted into two.

Assumption has ended a lot of marriages. The height at which divorce rate is going is very alarming. Even in the Christian fold, divorce is skyrocketing because of the force of assumption.

Business engagement and meaningful friendships are haulted on the grounds of assumption.

To make this menace worst, most times we even assume things that are not real or true about ourselves. Haven't you heard people call themselves failure, because they couldn't achieve a task? Many have committed suicide because they feel they are not good enough. Many have been so isolated that they have ended up in an asylum, just because they assume a lie they heard about them to be true.

When you assume, you give a wrong judgement about things, events or even a person. This is what an online Cambridge Dictionary has to say about Assumption...

Something that you accept as true without question or proof.

Assumption is the absence of understanding which gives birth to misunderstanding. You can never assume and be 100% right. - Amb. John C. Joseph

It is always a 50/50 situation which gives much room to lots of misinformation, misinterpretation and eventually leads to misunderstanding. Most times people assume what they don't understand, which leads to violence.

Our society is filled with lots of assumption, and assumption has the power to bring to fore what was not the intent of the speaker or doer of an action.

THE CURE FOR ASSUMPTION?

Our society and the church needs to get it right, so as to experience peace and unity. Hence the following are the cure for assumption:

  1. COMMUNICATION.

I have observed with time that communication and more communication is the major cure of assumption. Communication is said to be complete when their is a feedback of the message encoded by the encoder to the decoder.

Although atimes, there are challenges acrued to communication. The message might not be understood due to some factors. Hence it is imperative that when we communicate, we need not to be absent minded, especially the recipient of the message to whom the communication is made to.

During communication, we ought to listen with the ears of our soul, not only with our physical ears.

During communication, it is needed that we digest, meditate and reason on the words, and intent of the speaker, even if the use of words are not accurate.

  1. ASK QUESTIONS.

You can't just assume someone's thought after communication. In lieu to what you believe you understand, ask questions for clarification and swift understanding. Because most times, words can betray the intent of the heart.

It's possible to say something that is not the intent of the heart, due to wrong use of words or grammar. So ask questions to confirm if what you understood is exactly what the speaker has in mind.

This will save us lots of heartbreaks and troubles. I hope I have been able to add value to you today?
