My trip to the Cleveland Ohio Natural History Museum Part 2

You can see part 1 here

Next, we moved into the area about the geology, minerals, space and such. Always enjoyed looking at things like this as a kid. I've been to this museum more than once but it has been a pretty long time. My girl and I enjoyed taking our time walk around and admire every little detail. Probably what I liked most was the giant piece of copper. I'm actually a big fan of copper. Behind silver, it's my next favorite precious metal I collect a little bit of.

Had an interesting map showing all of the earthquake fault lines the USA along with a replica of a mine cart. Even to this day people still mine precious minerals for us to use in everything. Almost funny how we're still so dependent on such things. They also had a section about space, geology, and crystals as well.

After we were done with all of that we got to one of my favorite parts. It had a lot of pictures taken by the guy above during his travel to places like Africa. I can't go yet, but one day I would actually enjoy traveling to other places just to see them. I've been told a lot that seeing other parts of the world can help give perspective. Think it also helps make sure we appreciate just how big a place the world really is. I spent a lot of time admiring many of his pictures he had taken along with the other ones mixed in with them. They also had a guy who was talking about snakes and let you touch one. That was pretty cool too.

The other area had an interesting array of information talking things such as hibernation, animal flight, and other fascinating facts. They even had a small display dedicated to water bears otherwise known as Tardigrade. If you haven't heard of them they are a fascinating “micro animal,” and one of the most resilient creatures in the world. Able to survive minus 100 and over 300 degrees of heat.

The final part was probably my absolute favorite part. Either I missed this before when I had been at the museum or forgot about it but they have outdoor areas with live animals now. They range from common animals such as raccoons and coyotes to others you wouldn't be as likely to see such as a bald eagle. Most of these animals seemed to have been injured or domesticated.

And the drive back was a nice one since the weather had cleared up into a nice sunny day. Overall, a good trip. If you're ever in Ohio I highly suggest visiting the natural history museum here.
