Monomad - The evil hooks

Ungrateful thing!
I saved it from dying in a cold shop and she is attacking me every time I want to say hello.

I dunno what got into me to buy it. I like those cacti that have very short and thick spines. So they don't selectively pinch you.
Or the ones that are just completely bald or have just a few tiny ones sticking out from the areoles.
But nooooo.. I had to get the meanest one that was in the shop at tat time.

And you know what? I am glad I did! It is annoying that the hooks keep hurting my fingers. And it is not that they will pinch and leave me alone. They will hold the skin so strong that I could lift the whole cactus and it would be hanging from my finger... dangling..

But just look at this spines pattern! Isn't that just lovely? Feathery white, short spines go almost flat to the sides and the those hooks stick out warning with their red tips. Yes - they are dark brownish-red. In late spring it also blooms with small, pink flowers.

A lovely plant. Just gotta be extra careful with it.
