Ulog No. 66: "Visit to the Vet"

in #ulog6 years ago

I took my older cat, Kimmy, to the vet for her annual vaccination and, boy, what a pain she was! She was grumpy like a b!+€#. She growled and hissed at the vet doctor. She knew what was going to happen so she went feral on me I literally could not control her. I had to use two big and thick towels to sort of restrain her but she still managed to get away.

The vet doctor tried to restrain her but to no avail. I could sense that even the vet doctor was scared of Kimmy. In the end, he asked a nurse to help us so that we could get this thing done and over with. Whilst he 'pinned' her down and covered her with the towels, the nurse injected her with those syringes that were already prepared for Kimmy.

As you can see, Kimmy was not impressed but I had no choice. I want her to be healthy so I take her to the vet. Apart from that, we always go away so the cats actually need to be vaccinated otherwise the vet clinic will not take them in for boarding or accommodation.

After I paid the bill, the nurse gave me a flyer about cat spray and diffuser that I might consider getting for Kimmy to help solve her behavioural issues or support her when she's feeling stressed. This product apparently helps reduce and prevent anxiety in cats. What happens is that when the cats detect or smell the spray, it creates an overall sense of calm for the cats because the spray is like the feline pheromones that they leave behind when they rub their face on people, scratch posts, furniture and other objects in the home.

Well, I am really desperate for solutions so I will buy the spray once their new stock comes in. Every time I take Kimmy to the vet, she is always difficult to manage. I actually feel sorry for the vet doctors because they always get a taste of Kimmy's ferocity (is that the right term?). I am just glad they're not suggesting to put her down.

Perhaps, one other solution is that next time I bring Kimmy to the vet, I have to get my husband to come with me because at least he is strong enough to be able to control Kimmy.

At home, Kimmy is sweet and behaves very well, except that she doesn't like to be held. She never sits next to me or on my lap. She is not a very affectionate cat, unlike my other cat Miki that always craves for attention and human touch. (The picture below is Miki when she was only 2 or 3 months old.)

I'd suggest catnip but...😋🤣

I asked about that but the vet nurse said it's a stimulant. My two cats are already stimulated and highly energetic. Maybe Kimmy needs a 'downer' before going to the vet so she won't resist being held by other people. 😕
