Suomieksotiikkaa SAATANA! - Spring Bloom

Lol, who we kidding, we are in Finland, there is no bloom, no green pastures, no sun and no warmth.

It's the end of April and with good luck, on most years, we would have already gotten a few really nice days, but no such luck this year. There is still snow up in the north and on spots that are in a shadow for most of the day.

Today we have already had some rain, thunder, a brief hailstorm and even a glimpse of sun.

Okay this is not all bad, because the differences in yearly average temperature and rainfall do not change that much, which would mean that having a good cold and snow filled winter promises for a proper summer, which we haven't had in a couple years! Finnish summer is the best in the world, IF it arrives. It's warm but never scorching hot and never very humid.

Suomieksotiikkaa SAATANA! -series is about showing the uglier side of Finland and it's bipolar nature. No glittery winter wonderlands or lush summer days, but the grey, the muddy and wet days. The dark, abandoned and ugly.

Winter sucks most when it extends into the spring.

A prolonged winter is a godsend here. I rather dislike dog poop and rubbish being exposed from under the snow everywhere. The faster proper winter turns into proper summer the better.

I call that period the turdblossom season, we have already passed turdblossom here, I have picked up all the dog shit and just finished raking the lawn, I am going to dump a bunch of crap on it and probably mow next week for the first time, its several weeks late.

Hah! Is that a word coined by you or do you happen to live in Texas? They call a flower that grows out of a pile cow dung a Turd Blossom in Texas.

that's just what I call it when all the dog shits emerge from the melting snow in spring. I am sure Texans beat me to it but I was unaware.

Texans refer to the flower, you refer to the turd. It's a fitting term for the season. Are you somewhere in the north of the USA?

New England.

Oh wow, it's midsummer already?

Yes, are you in your summer cabin? :D

Nope, I'm home because I didn't know it was summer :(

Oh well, maybe next summer!

Good morning Mr. Paddington. Did you enjoy your winter sleep? No, it's not midsummer. Go back to sleep.

I wish I could sleep through every winter, but then it would leave only a few weeks to be awake per every year.

Finger crossed! We're hoping the same over here in the UK (Although I feel like we're still better off!) we had a few really nice days a week or two ago but it's back to slightly chilly again now!

This is entertaining.

Okay this is not all bad, because the differences in yearly average temperature and rainfall do not change that much, which would mean that having a good cold and snow filled winter promises for a proper summer, which we haven't had in a couple years!

There is no such correlation. So, it's even worse than you think! :)

Finnish summer is the best in the world, IF it arrives. It's warm but never scorching hot and never very humid.

That's right. If we're fortunate enough to get a blocking high pressure park over us for many weeks, it will get really warm (about 25-30 C) in the afternoon with low relative humidity. Our summers are, at their best, like winters in the south of Florida. Another scenario in which we get particularly warm weather is having a persistent southerly wind bring a warm and humid mass of air from southern Europe.

The summer always arrives (the leaves on trees never fail to grow) but it can be too cool for going to the beach. Daily maximums of about 15 C in June, July and August are considered cool. Daily maximums of 10 C or even slightly below are possible but very, very rare in in the southern half of the country in the summer months, particularly July. I remember having experienced a maximum daily temperature of 8 C in July once. I was quite pissed off by the cold weather.

I was thinking you when I wrote this post. I knew you'd come here 🤓🤓

Like clockwork.

Hah it so sad when snow happens in the spring :D
In Estonia trees are starting to get green now and day temperatures are around 15C average.

Haha, you still fighting with snow up there in the North? Though we had a brief shower of hails and rain also here in South Funland, the land of sun shine and rainbows little less snow than in winter.

I'm in Central Finland and yes, still some snow. I couldn't answer to you truthfully yesterday because I hadn't actually left the apartment in three days, but I'm in the countryside now and, yes, snow confirmed!

This made me think about one ad I saw this morning on the TV, where they said "summer is the nicest day of the year (in Finland)" 😅

Haha definitely true!

This weather is so pretty, I prefer this to Summer anytime. Your camera is just wow
