Simple Materials for a Sustainable Solution - Part 5 - Paper Floors and Fence Picket Baseboard Trim

in #art5 years ago

I've recently finished my third paper floor

Part 1 - Paper Floors
Part 2 - Staining
Part 3 - Decorative Painting
Part 4 - Protective Coating

Now it's time for the final touch!

We disassembled reclaimed wood from used fence panels.

Then ripped each picket to our desired width.

We positioned them around the room to assure continuity
with the color variations of each piece,
and measured them to size.

A couple of @gardenofeden past inhabitants and friends/family arrived at the perfect time with skills to contribute in finalizing this project.  Here @apolloearth is sharing his greater developed carpentry skills.

We cut the pieces to miter at a 45 degree angle at the joints,
and checked them for perfect fit in the room.

We numbered them on the back for ease in positioning them
along the floor during final installation.

The boards were sanded and coated with 2 coats of polyurethane.

After drying, the boards were fit into their numbered place.

Such a simple addition to the floors makes a huge difference
in the neatness of detail which visually adds the final touch.

Besides the clean visual appeal,
the best part of the baseboards for me is that they
were made from upcycled materials
which kept these valuable fence panels from ending up in the landfill.
There was no commercial processing to turn this trash into treasure,
and it was absolutely FREE!!!

Fence panels are an extremely valuable resource
that fill up the landfill on a daily basis.
I'm grateful to do my part to put these to good use
and give some love to our Mother Earth at the same time.

Check back to see an overview of the gallery of a couple more of the
flooring projects I've done with reclaimed fences.
