There are two kinds of people who support the Calexit movement.
People living in California who think that their state would be far better off without being hitched to the rest of the union,
and people living in every other state who can’t wait to get rid of California.
- the golden state is a toxic influence on the rest of the country. It’s become a breeding ground for leftists ideologies, and the people who believe those ideologies have run the state into the ground.
I know it's gotten a lot of publicity but I think you and I both know it's a lot of talk and they'll never do it. They would perish without their allowance from D.C. They are fiscally irresponsible and would immediately be renamed "Venezuela West".

But it's still part of the USA - why spoil things? Anyway, if things go wrong, it's an example, albeit on the negative side, to others. Do you (as in "all Americans" - I'm a Brit) really want to whittle down the USA to something smaller than it is today?

Federalism instead of nationalism.
I'm fine with that.
I'm prepared to accept my ignorance on this topic. I just think that most non-Americans will not understand this. I think that most people see the USA as heavily nationalistic, which, from my personal point of view, is difficult to reconcile with individual statehood.
(BTW - "you" was more rhetorical than personal - I wasn't implying anything against, or for, your opinion.)
I am in the latter group of people.
Remember shortly after the election, and CA was acting like a spoiled brat, and then they had the threat with the flooding and damn or levee breaking? Who did they ask for emergency assistance from? Why no other than OUR and THEIR President Trump.
But I say, Cali residents, if you want to secede... let me help you pack. Ta-ta
If you want to stay, then come live in the Midwest with me. Live from paycheck to paycheck, work a hard 12-hour day six, sometimes seven, days a week. Yeah, come on over.

Cal Exit is a very good idea only if all Cal citizens are forced to give up USA citizenship and pay the taxes and have to get a visa to enter America and most I importantly, they MUST build a wall like the East Germans did to keep their people inside and protect the rest of the country from them. Also all radio and TV transmissions from Cal must be jammed (strawberry preferred).
We would all wait for it to collapse, re-annex the state and then buy up all the businesses/property at a discount. Please, please Calexit.

All California would get would be a small sliver up the coast where the populations centers are. Most of the rest of the state would separate and remain with the Union. The US would be happy to defend the pro-American anti-rebel rebles.
fun fact...over half of california is federal land...and don't forget the effect of federal jobs on the Californian GNP.
Yep, they made a big deal about federal land belonging to the feds and not the states during the Bundy standoff, so they'll just have to eat their own words on that. All I see them getting is a little sliver of land from LA to San Francisco. highway 101 would be their only major highway.
