CSR has spent about $25,000, in addition to donations, to conduct 37,000 rescues to date. FEMA, by comparison, spent $90 million and conducted just 9,000 rescues in the wake of Harvey. The Houston Fire Department owns just 17 boats, but thousands of boat operators were using CSR.
CSR uses a geofencing technology that blocks out dangerous areas. If emergency management officials have declared an area dangerous for civilians, a volunteer won’t be dispatched to it. The app also lets users mark hazards such as downed power lines or swift water.
I was in a conversation with a good friend yesterday about the waste we see with government and every time we see it, it is coming out of our pockets and it never gets better. The problem is the same people who spend the money determine the laws on how it is spent. And you know they are all in Washington figuring out how to give it all to themselves and their friends.
Government is insane.

A crowd-source app seems like it would be a way more (cost) effective method to rescue people in a disaster situation then just patrolling the streets guessing and listening for cries for help.
The army of government workers may LOOK more impressive, but in the end is a waste of time and money. They're usually there to confiscate guns more than save lives. @ironshield
government is the 'legal' monopoly on violence.
it would thus seem that if the government department or agency in question business is NOT violence..then there is no reason for it to exist.
There is nothing that government can do that cannot be done more cost effectively and efficiently by private enterprise.
There is no incentive for government to be cost effective as there's always more public money forthcoming, and no reason to be efficient as they're a monopoly.
