  • Bitcoin has essentially become the poster child for cryptocurrencies, and that's a problem for cybercriminals dealing on the dark web.

They claim..perhaps they learned that from CNN?

  • Now cybercriminals are growing frustrated with it, according to Recorded Future's researchers. Essentially, bitcoin has gotten too popular for drug dealers and thieves to use efficiently.

  • "Despite its security limitations, we have observed that Litecoin is becoming a favorite currency among criminals in the underground, especially among eastern Europeans," Andrei Barysevich, director of advanced collection at Recorded Future, said in an email. "On the surface this discovery came as a surprise, but criminals are, after all, businessmen. They want to make it as easy as possible for customers to make purchases."

Less Than One Percent of Bitcoin Transactions Used for Illicit Activities Says New Study

  • “What we know about Bitcoin’s illicit use is mainly based on anecdotal evidence, usually without supporting data, analysis of how it is used across geographical regions, or trends over time. While it is impossible to quantify exactly how much bitcoin is used illicitly, analyzing the laundering of bitcoins (where it can be identified) gives insight into criminals’ methods for hiding their illicit proceeds.”
  • The study found that the percentage of bitcoin that was moved around in an effort to obfuscate its illegal origins was tiny.

A problem those searching for truth to research.

Which one is a FUDker?
Which one isn't?

Both...or neither...
I report..
you decide.

I don't know why a criminal would use either (btc or ltc), they are both transparent.

stop with your commons sense comments - this is media and politicians we are talking about....

Neither medians nor politicians are really interested in whether or not Bitcoin is linked to illicit activities, in fact, the media and politicians are, they only want to stain the image of the BTC as it is on the deep web, because we do not forget something, although the deep web is used for illicit activities, it is oversized in its criticism for the simple fact that they cannot control what happens there.

well sir i don't think it is easy to regulate the use of these criminal activity. well the only way to stop all of these is trace the bank account from where these transaction happens

a very good post,

Anything too good will definitely have it's other negative side. Caution is the ultimate key in all.
I am not too surprised about this, it is something expected.
Awesome post sir

¿Litecoin? Pffftt!!

Bah! @everittdmickey. I bet the publishers of those two articles are clueless and more notched than a wrecked pencil sharpener mate.

¿Cybercriminals frustrated? YehYehYeh, not so soon.
As for illicit use of altcoins over the dark web, looks like they all didn't hear about what Monero & Zcash is yet. Tsk Tsk };)

Litecoin?? Why not Monero?
