Everything Comes to You at the Right Time... Be Patient

Graduating from secondary school in Nigeria is one of the sweetest experience for students.

You graduate with the dream of getting admission into the university of your choice almost immediately. Because your brain is still fresh, you study hard and pass your WAEC, smash your jamb and make plans with your classmates about the university to attend and you all expect to get in.

But your dream come crushing when you don't get admission that year. Most of your mates gain admission into universities of their choice but you seem to be the unlucky one and soon you start feeling miserable.

Well, that was my story, having graduated 2011 from secondary school, I became jamb customer for 4years.

For those who don't know, jamb is The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB)  which is a Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary-level institutions. The board conducts entrance examinations for prospective undergraduates into Nigerian universities.

I wrote Jamb many times trying out different universities all to no avail. Meanwhile all my mates where in school. I had to stop replying messages sent by most of my mates on Facebook. Because the always ask, have you gotten admission? What level are you now? Tired of all that, I cut most of them off.

During my 4years stay at home, I did lots of jobs to make money. I couldn't be a liability to my Mom as shes the only one taking care of us all. I worked in the Catholic parish as a secretary for two years, worked in a saloon for a month- well I didn't really like the job so I quit, I worked as a teacher in a school for 3months, Then as a sales representative. I gained lots of experiences doing the jobs.

God finally answered my prayer in 2015 when I got admission to study Economics in University of Uyo. It was a joyful phase in my life. I was very happy. I could tell my friends that am now an undergraduate. If you are from Nigeria, you will get how important it is for you to tell people you went to the university. Its something of pride.

Now...

Looking back at everything I feel its stupid to be desperate about going to the university, to cut my friends just because I felt I wasn't in their league.

Most people in the university are not even doing well. Many are saddled with carryovers and failed courses. Many do not even graduate with good grades, but if you dont know these things, you look at them and envy them.

I know there are many who graduate with good grades, am not saying wanting to go to the university is a bad thing, just saying its not worth killing yourself over. Your time will always come.  I realized everyone has his or her own destiny, trying to be like someone else will only end up hurting you. Everyone has his own life to live. People are pushed to do lots of things just so the can meet up with the reigning thing or trend. I have seen girls go into lots of bad things just to meet up with the so called big girls on campus. Not everything is as it seems.

There is need to wait for your time, my mum used to say

Whenever you wake up is your morning".
Your friends might seem to be going far in life and you feel you are behind where you are supposed to be,
Just be patient and do the right thing.
Your time Will come.

Now I look back, i understand the experiences I had made me wiser and stronger. Life is about experiencing opposites isn’t it?

Quotes I love so much

What we have to remember is that we can still do anything. We can change our minds. We can start over. Get a post-bac or try writing for the first time. The notion that it’s too late to do anything is comical. — Marina Keegan

When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. — Alexander Graham Bell

Drop the idea of becoming someone, because you are already a masterpiece. You cannot be improved. You have only to come to it, to know it, to realize it. — Osho

I know the feeling. I failed my college exam the first time, spent one year at home, finally got admitted the next year, (in Foreign Languages). Looking back, it was not worth it - my kids speak English better than me, while my eldest has read far more than I ever did in college...and she is unschooled! But, just as you say, at that time having a degree was important.
I'm sure your time will come, you're already doing very good here, maybe it won't have anything to do with Economics, even, but, for some reason, having a degree in something might help. People don't yet understand you can learn much more outside formal education and place a great deal of value on a piece of paper!

Some disappointments are blessings in disguise. Have seen people who bribe their way into the university and got killed in their second year. Am not hallucinating here! this is something that happened right in my school. The lady in question did not get admission so she went to her pastor to tell him and the pastor said it is not yet your time wait for God's time. But she went ahead to cry to daddy and daddy bribed the admission team with 40k for his daughter's name to be added to the list . it worked out , she got admitted but got killed by cultist during a fight in her lodge while in her second year. Just like eve said: never rush for God's time is the best. Nice one eve, you have my upvote.

Wow! 4 years and most people throw theirs away by dropping out or suspending studies when others are dying and paying their last kobo for it.
Well God knows best cause maybe if you had gotten the admission then i guess you wont meet us(0'15 set)or @samstickkz to tell you about Bitcoin n Steemit lol

My dear, this is how bad it is...you will always think u are the only one behind but people are far more behind...but patience is the key!
Nice one eve...

I felt like my one year was hell, only to gain admission and want to drop out during second year.

Nice lessons learnt

Lol, its not easy

My graduation went fine as long grades are counted, everything else was a pure hell. I saw no beauty in it because everything was a huge mess.

Nice piece
