Charity wrapped in Dignity!

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Have you ever seen a boy/ girl (who ought to be in school)  or adults rather than begging on streets, hawk goods or commodities that the sum total is about 100naria or 500naira and they walk a long distance or hours under sun from street to street just to get buyers?

Here is an encounter between a rich woman and a seller..........

She asked him,

"How much are you selling the eggs?"

The old egg Seller replied to her,

"N40 for one egg, Ma."

She said to him,

"I will take 6eggs for N200 or I will leave".

The old egg Seller replied,

"Come take them at the price you want. May God  bless us, and maybe this is a good beginning because I have not been able sell to anyone today."

She took it and walked away with a feeling that she has won. She got into her fancy car and went to pick her friend, and invited her to a posh  restaurant.

She and her friend sat down and ordered what they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered.

Then she went to pay the bill. The bill was N1,400 She gave him  N1,500 and said to the owner of the restaurant:

"Keep the change."

This incident may seem quite  normal to the owner of the restaurant. But it is very painful for the poor egg Seller.

The bottom line is:

Why do we always show that we have the power when we buy from the needy and the poor? And  why  are we generous with those who do not need our generosity ?

Every time a poor child comes to me to sell something simple, I remember a tweet from the son of a rich man who said, "After every prayer my father used to buy simple goods from poor people at  expensive prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he used to pay more for them. I used to get concerned by this act and I asked  him about it. Then my father told me:

'It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my son.'

Compare these two stories of social hypocrisy. The first one is disappointing and the second one is inspiring.

What is your take?

Have a beautiful day!

I'm not a rich person but I try not to haggle with that hardworking lady backing a child and roasting corn along the roadside. You may think I'm rich in the way I'll pay for the goods without haggling. I think it's a way to support a hardworking person who choose the honourable good ol' hardwork to that of begging.

Thats the attitude everyone should exhibit when it comes to dealing with poor sellers

That's the only way to help the society, one person at a time.

wow, this is quite touching. It is so unfortunate that we are in the world that promotes social status at any length.

that is just the stereotyped view of what the world is all about, every body wants to identify with a social class of his and feel morally justified to make others less powerful than them. Their thoughts is that they are even do the poor a favour by getting something from them. It is quite pitiable, but that is the world we live in.

This is awesome @evelyniroh. thanks for the share.

This caught me unaware... And the illustrations were just too point picking...
This is what happens in the society. Taking from the poor and giving to the rich.
But Marm! It has always been and it won't change because the poor would always make the rich richer and the rich would always give to the poor a little off they have gathered and chant praises to them selves like they have done the world a great favour.
We could just learn to help somebody today.
It could be anyone's turn tomorrow.

Thats why rich gets more richer and poor gets more poorer
The rich gives attention rich and try to impress the rich not to help poor, but i wont drop all the blame on the rich, sometimes when you give an individual lemon he comes back another day with his family and friends asking for lemonades.

Awsome post @evelyniroh

The society is twisted.

Love is one and only pure religion.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
James 1:27

Imagine just leaving shoprite dt has non-negotiable price tags then pricing banana outside. Not fair

Charity wrapped in dignity...I wont price groundnut again

But if i dont price market now, my friends or mama will say that i am a moron. So what am i gonna do?

Exactly ooo😂
Seriously i don't know which way to go

hmmmm"Charity wrapped with dignity".....it's cool we learn everyday..Thanks for this!!!

Love this post - I hate it when people feel the need to be patronizing to those they help. Yes, it is good to help, no matter how, but it is equally important to treat them nice, acknowledge the fact that they're still human beings, no matter their present circumstances.

Most rich people dont get that
