Marbrid Etomes, an 7 years old Class 3 pupil of GRATITUDE Bilingual Nursery and Primary School, being the son of the Coordinator of the Forest and Environmental Programme for Sustainable Development (FOEPSUD) and he is one of the pioneer Earth Ranger of the Steemit Action Summer Holiday Program (SASH-Program).

Marbrid has proven that his worth as a courageous and committed child determined to serve his community as an Earth Ranger. One unique thing about him is hard work. You can easily know Marbrid is there whenever there is an activity because he works tirelessly. Whenever you see him relenting his effort then know that he is hungry. You will now need to replace the used energy. Hence, he makes a very nice team member since he is always ready to explore community service and in the move to do work while contributing in greening the environment through the SASH-Program.

Earth Rangers gathered infront of the Nkwen Fon's Palace and receiving a talk from HRH Fon Azehfor III of Nkwen Fondom
It was at the late hours in the morning on Friday 13th July 2018 that the Earth Rangers visited the Nkwen Fon’s Palace in a bid to plant trees as part of their environmental protection program for the Steemit Action Summer Holiday Program.

As the Fon happily received them, he then gave them a talk about the role of culture and tradition in environmental protection as well as the important role that trees play in the world. He added on the role play by trees planted around the Nkwen Fon’s palace and in the sacred forest of Nkwen Fondom. In so doing, the Earth Rangers learn much about the customs and tradition of the Nkwen Fondom.

HRH Fon Azehfor III of Nkwen Fondom, received the Earth Rangers warmly and they had the opportunity of listen to the Fon talk about the importance of trees while emphasizing on the fact that our culture and tradition are greatly dependent on the environment. He appreciated the efforts of the network of the NGOs for taking up such an initiative of engaging young people and children in community service.

His word of welcome was immediately followed by the planting of trees around the Nkwen Fon’s palace and sacred forest. Meanwhile, the Fon appreciated the 300 trees that were donated by FOEPSUD and partners.
The Earth Rangers planted about 200 trees before it threatened to rain. This number was rounded up and then packed the remaining 100 trees to be planted in a later date under a shade tree. At the end of the tree planting exercise, the Fon offered the Earth Rangers some refreshment that included good palm wine, corn fufu and vegetables with chicken sauce. This was followed by hand washing then dinning.

The Fon was very proud of firstly our initiatives and then the activities realised in his palace. He then supported the Earth Rangers with $ 46.2 for transportation. The Earth Rangers had a magnificent day to realised the following achievements.
• Met the Fon of Nkwen for the first time who encouraged them to continue to serve
• Learned about the customs and traditions of the people of Nkwen Fondom
• Understand the role of culture and tradition in environmental protection
• The most important role that trees play in the world
• Planted 200 trees in Nkwen Palace and Nkwen Sacred Forest
• Received $ 46.2 donation from the Fon of Nkwen to support their community service program
• Had fun, experience in tree planting and served their community
