Harvesting &Land Preparation in My Area
Yesterday was a very work high and heavy day for my dad. He told me he will be harvesting some yam tubers from the game to prepare the land for planting next season.
He started with the first ten yam stands although not all gave him what he wanted he still thanked God for a successful harvest.
Am also glad that he had a successful process as well as no injury and everything went smoothly.
I also learned some things from him as well during the harvest.
I observed that as he was harvesting he was also clearing the land at the same time and I asked why?
He said it will save the time of coming I weed although if the weather condition in the area continues to rain.
He also thought me that if I should plant a yam tuber today to be harvested a the end of the planting season.
He said one of the signs that will show that the yam is ready for harvest is that the leaves begin to die.
And it proves what science has said that every living thing must die.
And I was so happy he shared this knowledge with me and am glad I was there to learn as well.
Now as he was harvesting as well as clearing the land I also spotted him removing the sticks he used to hold the yam to climb up.
And when I asked he said that those he is removing are not strong enough for the next planting season.
What if the rain should come and the wind as well it will blow it away and spoil the nature of the growth of the I yam you planted.
And to wrap it all up planting is interesting and if you should go into planting or call it agriculture you'll never back out.
