Animal Activities #71
Tale of how lions became ruthless
In a time long ago, the great lions roamed the earth more than they are these days.
They were kind and mighty. Today they're reckless and rough in the Sahara.
All the other small animals respected them and obeyed their commands. Respect not fear and the world was in peace.
Suddenly, one fine day, the lions disappeared. They became careless about everyone else's affairs. Soon enough, war broke out between the birds, the foxes and the deer. Blood spilled on the green fields. The small animals tried in vain to bring the lions back to establish order but to no avail.
In desperation, the seven oldest wolves tried to solve the issue. They had special power given to them by the lions many years ago. They wanted to end this conflict, but one of the seven wolves, Borr the grey wolf, had a wicked lion spirit speak to him all the time.
"Murder your fellow wolves," that was the evil spirit lion's command to Borr. " And once you do, come to me and we'll rule the earth together."
And Borr, being enticed, did it. There was nothing he could do about it. The words of the lion sounded too tempting.
A rabbit was listening to the whole thing. He hid in the tall grass near Borr. After hearing everything that the lion and Borr had talked about, the rabbit ran quickly to the other wolves and told them about Borr's betrayal. The wolves were very sad but came up with a plan to deal with him.
On another day, Dolly, a baby crow flew over the snowy mountain. Looking down below the snow, she saw something gre, an old rock with some symbols on it. Dolly held it in her claws and flew down with it.
The crow put the rock down. She spent some time looking at the writing.
"Oh no," said Dolly.
The rock had been broken into two pieces. One part of the stone was gone. The writing on it ended halfway through. Dolly had been searching for this rock for such a long time. She sat down on the snow very frustrated.
A little frog hopped up beside her.
"Do you have any bad news?" the frog asked Dolly.
"A lot of bad news," Dolly said to the frog.
Dolly put the piece of the stone in her bag. She looked up into the sky where the moon was bright and full.
Then she jumped off the mountain.
What was the news?
The lions in their heavenly realm had been attacked. The evil lion spirit got his chance, when Borr listened to him and attacked the wolves.
But the young ones after years of training, being cast out for potential betrayal, came back and waged war on Borr.
Order was not quite restored but it was better than the old times. A new birth of lions. You could tell they are not as majestic and as kind as lions of old. It's inherently in them to always be ready for war, kill or be killed.
That's why they are the way they are these days. Always in the lookout for enemy hostile take over.
