My love-hate relationship with thunder storms
Hey there.
Today I want to tell you a little story about my love-hate relationship with thunder storms and lightning. I've been fascinated by lightning for a long time now. The sound, the feeling, the show, how a lightning bolt renders in a photo - it's a superb feeling, when you capture that one perfect photo. But getting THE ONE is a relatively complicated task. Add in your own safety, constantly changing weather, chasing the storm and other complications, you'll get one hell of a fun time.
I've failed many times trying to catch lightning bolts. Mainly because whenever I find a spot, the storm either goes around it or calms down. It has happened so many times that I can't even keep a count anymore. This is where hate kicks in and you promise yourself, that you will never chase thunder storms again. But when an another storm rolls in, you still pack your gear and take a shot at it again. That's just how it is. Love and hate.
A recent photo I took when a large thunderstorm went over Estonia. The lightning struck right above our heads. Good thing it was an air-air strike. Scary moment.
But when all the odds are in your favor, you tend to get some really stunning photos.
Lightning strike over the Alps near Königssee, Germany.
Lightning strike seen over a military base in Estonia.
Another close encounter. This photo was featured in a national nature magazine in Estonia.
That is my short story about my love-hate relationship with thunder storms. Hope you enjoy it. Stay tuned for another photo(series) tomorrow :)
Hope you're having a good one,
Senpai
