Alright, friends, in this opportunity I'll bring you a movie from a genre I'm not particularly a fan of: musicals. Though, as I said, this isn't my type of movies I do enjoy some musicals from time to time (most of the times just from Disney) and this one is definitely worth the mention.
The Greatest Showman (dir. Michael Gracey) is an american musical drama film based on the life of P. T. Barnum and his creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, that had been existing since 1871 and just closed on May of last year, 146 years later. It stars Hugh Jackman as Barnum and boy, does he sell the show.
The colorful and bright tone of the film is both expected and pleasing, unlike other drama musicals I've seen this one isn't dark and full of close shots but it's quite alive and big.
The songs, written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, are all packed with a powerful message in each of its scenes and just a great sense of joy and greatness, even the sad ones. More than once I got goosebumps listening to them and paying attention to the lyrics.
But the strongest point of the film goes right to the director, who does a breathtaking job at making you feel, with the shots of this film, that you're watching this whole thing live on a theater.
