ONE SECOND IS ETERNITY (An Original Poem)
The older you get the stranger your perception of time becomes. Sometimes a year can seem to pass so quickly it feels like an hour but ten years can feel like a different lifetime.
I can remember this particular moment like it happened yesterday. I was in my early twenties, depressed from a recent break up, feeling sorry for myself, and lonely in general. All of my friends had other things to do that night and I didn’t want to sit at home alone so I got in the car and just drove.
I found my way to a public park and got out of the car and walked. As made my way to the middle of an open field it began snowing. The flakes were large and floated to the ground in slow motion. The moment was magical and time seemed as though it ground to a halt, it felt like I was the only one in the world.
All of a sudden an immense feeling of calm and well-being washed over me and I knew I was going to be okay. This was the precise moment when this short, simple poem was born, nearly twenty-five years ago.
ONE SECOND IS ETERNITY
Enlightenment
can happen
in the least
likely of places,
like a field
of falling flurries
with not another
soul around
the ground
is blanketed,
so soft and white
the hard edges
of reality
are hushed before
me like some
long sigh
now,
one second
is eternity.

Enlightenment is but a moment
For one to becoming enlightenment, follows self-realization's eternities...
Great post again, thanks for sharing. All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
Just like Adam...
Good memory!
It must be that amazing writing -- it sticks in your head!
Thanks, I sometimes feel guilty for posting these shorter ones. Glad you enjoyed it! Did you listen to the Fats Waller song? That picture of him and the car was actually a link to play the song.
beautiful
Thank you!
The older you get the stranger your perception...
Being old..
As we can not stop time flow
"one second is eternity"
So true! Time seems to go faster with each year.
Someone said,
"The speed of time is proportional to age." :-)
today
Have a happy life~
Another masterpiece!
Thanks, @fairytalelife!
Yes, our sense of time does seem to change as we age. I remember when I was 5, a month felt like a year.
