IT WAS THEN (An Original Poem)

in #poetry10 years ago (edited)

There you stand
with forgiveness
stinging your eyes
and a prayer
burning your lips,
giving thanks
to the tremendous storm
that stranded you here.

At first you trembled
and then you cursed,
wishing for a
frictionless life
but then it happened,
pushing against
the weight and
through the very stench
of your struggles
you felt it,
a split second
of immortality.

It was then
you began
to understand
the meaning
of this twisted trip
called life
and the power
you hold
inside of you.

It was then
your eyes opened,
it was then
that you could
sleep no longer...
it was then.

Nice poem. As a songwriter, I appreciate original art like this. Thanks for sharing.

I appreciate your kind words, thank you!

The DOGE opens his eyes for this poem!

well said - I too have found it to be true that sometimes difficulty and challenge can give me the opportunity to find new resources within myself and around me (out of necessity) and this process of challenge and discovery - assuming that I overcome - gives me new strength, confidence, humility and compassion that show me the very essence of happiness, of life.

Thank you! Yes, struggles can definitely make us stronger!
