AS I PEDAL DOWN THIS ROAD (An Original Poem)

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

Out for a lazy pedal
with a longing for freedom,
only a few moments,
with no anchors to this Earth

as if coasting through
some precocious dream
only half-remembered and
in slow motion.

where despite
the rush of wind
that cleansed all darkness,
bully's taunts,
and blew all the cares away,

it was always in times
of ephemeral silence,
when no words were spoken
that the wisdom came

as I pedal down the road,
a brief respite from all
successes and failures,
and each of life's slow suicides

for one sweet instance
all that exists is a sigh
born of complete nothingness,
as I pedal down this road.

Congrats on your 8000th post @mindhunter! Thank you!

A few poetic words to carry alongside your heart as you dash onto the SteemFest stage. Enjoy the flight. I await your musings with a rabid glee :))

while reading this poem I can feel all the sensations of riding, I love it too, beautiful writing as always!

Great poem! I am a young poet. I am 16 and have been writing for just a couple of years. I would love for someone like you to check my poetry out, it would mean a lot!

Thanks! Sure @indigowaltz, I'd be happy to.

Very nice meaning poem!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I like it. Great way to experience mindfulness. Never been that confident on a bicycle, but just discovered they do trikes for adults, so I'm getting one of those when funds allow. I shall think of this poem when I get to ride it.

Thanks, @hopehuggs. Cycling was my portal to mindfulness before I even realized what mindfulness was. I was nerdy/bookish growing up and didn't always fit in and I'd hop on my bike and all of those negative feelings would fall away. A trike is a good option if you have room to store it. I used to ride with my father but he's in his 70's now. I've been considering getting him a trike that he could ride around their development. They are a little pricey but I might look for a used one. Thanks for your comment! Happy trails!

I love your style!!

Back in the 1960's one of my friends had a Raleigh bike and was much envied. Enjoyed the poem; ironically I am also getting ready to post a cycling poem. Hope to post it tomorrow.

@beginningtoend, they're the best bikes I've ever ridden. Before I found this Raleigh I was riding a custom built single speed bike that weighed about 16lb. The single speed didn't get much ride time after I took a spin on the Raleigh. It's not a light bike (almost 40lbs) but so comfortable that you could ride all day once you get used to the weight. I took it on a 50 mile ride this Summer and could've easily gone another 50. I'll look or your poem! Thanks.

Very clever excellent poem congratulations

Your poetry is remarkable.

Transports me back in time, Thank You

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
