I'm A Little Disappointed
I had time to reflect on the new Star Wars movies, and I've decided I don't like them as much as the original trilogy. Call me a Star Wars purist if you must, but I think the prequels and the new trilogy are not the best Star Wars movies. I would say there are parts that I liked, and a lot of parts I dislike, even hate. Nobody asked, but here is how I would have done it. (Be prepared it's long!)
Episode I :
The story would have followed Obi Wan Kenobi as a Padawan going through the trials under the instruction of Qui Gon Jinn, and Yoda in the general sense. They are sent to Naboo to investigate the Trade Federation's blockade. While investigating they are ambushed on the planet when Darth Sidious orders the Trade Federation to invade and force Queen Amidala to sign a treaty.
The Jedi then rescue the Queen and try to get her back to Coruscant to speak at the Galactic Senate to inform them of the Trade Federation's illegal invasion. On the way, their ship is damaged and will have to land on Tattoine to find parts. They meet a young boy who is strong with the force. At this point, there wouldn't be an immaculate conception or midichlorian nonsense. Anakin would have been a slave boy with parents who died after he was born. Essentially being raised by his master Watto. He understands he is different than other humans he encounters. Kenobi and Jinn notice this and are able to trade the Naboo ship for Anakin. They then find a freighter which will bring them to Coruscant. There will be none of the pod racing silliness.
Back on Coruscant Queen Amidala tells the Senate about the invasion and generally how awful the Trade Federation is. Senator Palpatine gets the ball rolling on ending the invasion, but drags his feet on accomplishing anything. Kenobi during this time goes through trials and succeeds at becoming a Jedi Knight. Anakin also shows the council he is strong with the force and is admitted to the Jedi Academy. The Queen becoming frustrated with Senate's lack of action, meets with the Jedi Council in hopes of returning to Naboo to end the invasion herself. Yoda sends Jinn and Kenobi with her to act as bodyguards and to help any resistance efforts.
Word of the Jedi Council sending two Jedi with Amidala to Naboo reaches Palpatine's ears, and he sends a coded message to Darth Maul, his secret Sith Apprentice. He puts on a cloak and sends a message to the Trade Viceroy and warns them Amidala is returning and his apprentice will also arrive to deal with the Jedi. Back on Naboo, the Queen rallies the resistance, and Kenobi is sent with the freed Naboo pilots to destory the droid control ship. Jinn, is confronted by Darth Maul and dies. Meanwhile, the Queen and the Naboo resistance are able to capture the Viceroy. While Kenobi returns to the surface he feels a disturbance in the force as Jinn dies. He finds Maul and confronts him. After lenghty lightsaber duel, Maul is wounded and retreats. At the end, Yoda and Kenobi have a funeral for Jinn and discuss why the Sith were involved and that Anakin is to be Kenobi's Padawan, once they return to Coruscant.
Episode II:
This would take place ten years later and Anakin has grown and is a typical rebellious teenager type. Kenobi is challenged by this, but believes he is ready. It would start with Count Dooku brokering a deal with the Trade Federation for new, and upgraded Droids. It would then be revealed that both Count Dooku and Palpatine are Sith Masters. Production begins on the new Droid Destroyers. Amidala returns to the Senate to continue deal with the Trade Federation and other systems who trying to seperate from the Galactic Republic. Senator Palpatine is named Chancellor and begins draconian measures for those trying to seperate.
During this time there are several attempts on Amidala's life. Kenobi and Skywalker are assigned to guard the Queen and find that a contract has been issued on her life. Kenobi investigates and finds Jango Fett, a disillusioned Mandalorian turned bounty hunter, at the center of the conspiracy. Through the Coruscant underworld, Kenobi finds out Fett is based out of Camino. Anakin is sent with Amidala back to Naboo as her personal bodyguard. There their friendship is rekindled and eventually fall in love. There is another attempt on Amidala's life, at the same time there is another invasion by the Trade Federation. This time they are accompanied by the other seperatist systems. Amidala wants to stay and fight but Anakin convinces her to flee.
On Camino, Kenobi finds that they have cloned Jango Fett and have built legions of clones for the Republic under the orders of Palpatine after failed invasion of Naboo ten years previous. Kenobi informs the Jedi Council of this, and is told to find Anakin and aid him with getting Amidala to safety. Jango is contacted by Count Dooku and is told to follow Kenobi and find Amidala.
On Coruscant, Palpatine informs the Senate of the Seperatist's invasion of Naboo and other systems. He is granted full war powers and reveals his plans for the Grand Army of the Republic and orders them to Naboo to free his homeworld. Kenobi arrives at Naboo and fights his way to the surface. He finds Anakin and Amidala on the outskirts of Theed, trying to rally some kind of resistance. Kenobi informs Anakin of the goings on with the clone army and Palpatine. At first, Skywalker doesn't believe Kenobi, because Palpatine has been mentoring him.
The clone army arrives and they begin fighting the seperatists and clear a path to the surface where there is a large battle to free Theed. Darth Maul is faced yet again by Kenobi during the battle and is seemingly killed. Kenobi and Anakin lead the clones to victory and the seperatist retreat. After the battle, the seperatist regroup on Geonosis and begin plans for building a weapon.
Episode III:
Set 5 years after Episode II, Kenobi is now a Jedi Master and Anakin is a knight with his own Padawan Ashoka Tano. They lead the Army to find the base of Count Dooku who has seemingly kidnapped Palpatine. They find Dooku and confront him. Palpatine uses the dark side to plant images of Kenobi and Amidala running away together to sow distrust. He also manipulates Skywalker to kill Dooku in anger. Anakin is ashamed and tells Palpatine of Kenobi's possible betrayal. Palpatine continues to manipulate Anakin, and slowly begins seducing him to the dark side.
While Kenobi and Anakin are trying to smuggle Palpatine back to Coruscant through Seperatist held systems. On Coruscant, the Vice Chancellor begins setting up more dictatorial rules for those systems loyal to the Republic. Clones have been garrisoned at every major capitol city along with a governor appointed by the Vice Chancellor in Palpatine's absence. The Jedi Council, aware of Palpatine's ambitions, begin sending out Jedi across the galaxy in hopes of aiding those systems in resisting an eventual take over by Palpatine.
Kenobi and Anakin make there way to Tattoine where Anakin finds an older Watto who is willing to hide them. Watto tells Anakin of an uncle that came to find Anakin after he left in hopes of buying his freedom. Watto tells them where to find the Lars moisture farm. There they find his cousin Owen and his new wife Beru, and their father Cliegg Lars. There they discover that Skywalker's parents died in slavery to Jabba the Hutt, and that Anakin's mother Shmi and Cliegg were siblings. Anakin and Kenobi get Palpatine off Tatooine after a few bounty hunters found that Palpatine was there.
They finally make it back to Coruscant, and during the trip Palpatine continues his manipulation of Anakin. He continues to push Anakin to the dark side by showing Amidala dying, and that the Lars family were lying about his parents. Once they return to Coruscant Anakin goes with Palpatine to remain as his bodyguard against the wishes of the Jedi Council. Kenobi has sensed a change in Anakin to the dark side, but is conflicted. Yoda senses it too and is worried that Anakin may fully join the Sith.
Palpatine returns to the Senate and dissolves it and orders the full take over of all the loyal systems and presses them into service against the seperatists. The Jedi Council sends Jedi to capture Palpatine, but find Anakin there to defend him. Palpatine uses the dark side and he finally succumbs and he attacks the Jedi. Palpatine reveals his true form and knights Anakin, Darth Vader. Kenobi and Yoda feel Anakin's betrayal and then sends out messages to the remaining Jedi to flee and avoid Coruscant. Yoda informs Obi Wan that Amidala and Anakin were secretly married and that she is pregnant with Anakin's children. Yoda goes to Theed and finds Amidala and takes her to safety. Kenobi is sent after Anakin to bring him back from the dark side if at all possible. Vader is sent to the Mustafar system under the guise of Sidious' new apprentice and to get the seperatists to now follow his as their leader. Vader kills them mercilessly, and is ordered to await Palpatine's instructions. Palpatine orders the new Imperial Army to find all Jedi and have them executed. Kenobi is informed by Bail Organa that Anakin was ordered to Mustafar. Kenobi tells Organa that Yoda will need his help with Amidala. Organa agrees and goes to Naboo.
On Mustafar, Kenobi finds Anakin standing over the bodies of the Seperatist leaders. Kenobi begins trying to reason with him, and Anakin tells him Skywalker is dead and only Vader stands before him. He accuses of Kenobi of turning Amidala against him and trying to force his mentor out of power to make the Jedi Council the rulers of the galaxy. They fight which leads Vader defeated and nearly engulfed in lava. Palpatine watching the events on Mustafar unfold, sends a cruiser to retrieve Vader who is clinging to life. Meanwhile Amidala is having complications with her pregnancy and has her labor induced. Yoda thinks that seperating the twins would keep them safe from the Empire. Bail Organna takes Leia, and Luke sent with Kenobi to Tatooine be raised by his uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. While on Tatooine Kenobi is instructed in how to communicate with his old master through the force, and how to become one with the force. Yoda goes to Dagobah and begins his own exile. Back on Coruscant, Palpatine has Vader's droid prosthesis attached and reveals to Vader that Amidala died during child birth, but will help him find the baby.
Rogue One:
I pretty much enjoyed the movie and mostly it would remain unchanged. The only changes I would make would be the removal of all the specialized stormtrooper units that make no other appearances in the original trilogy. I liked the idea of one of the engineers having a design flaw that would lead to catastrophic failure of the entire base.
Episodes VII through IX:
These would taken place 30 years after the destruction of Death Star II. The Empire has all but been destroyed, it is discovered that Palpatine sent out a last order upon his death for the Sith to re-emerge, and lead the remnant back to power. Luke and Leia are in charge of a new Jedi Academy on Yavin-4. Han is the New Republic's minister of trade, and Chewbacca goes back to Kashyyyk to retire.
Luke has problems with one of his disciples at the Academy. Ben Solo, one of Leia and Han's twins is becoming corrupted to the dark side by a former student. Ben and this former student go to find the only remaining Sith temple on Malachor. Inside they find a being who was powerful in the dark side, Snoke. Snoke uses Ben and the other student as his Sith generals to rebuild the empire. Snoke is revealed to be one of Palpatine's advisors on Death Star II, and barely escaped and was heavily wounded. He made his way to Malachor to use the Sith Temple to heal his body.
At the end, the Empire is rebuilt and a has taken back the majority of systems in the New Republic. Ultimately it would be left in a cliff hanger between Ben Solo the new Sith Master killing his uncle Luke. This would make way for a new trilogy based around Leia's other child, Rey who rejects the Jedi and the Sith and has become a neutral force user as the prophesied "balance" to the force.
Will the Han Solo movie be any good? That remains to be seen. I have a bad feeling about it. *wink
Enjoy the vote and reward!
Thanks
I did enjoy Rouge One. It made me want to watch A New Hope as soon as I got home.
