AR-15 Build CritiquessteemCreated with Sketch.

I have an admitted problem of liking guns too much.  It is an expensive habit, more expensive than my video game habit.  I have been watching some demonetized videos on YouTube about AR-15 builds.  I find myself doing an inner commentary on their builds.  "Why have a light on an 18 inch DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) build?"  "Why have a bi-pod on a 14.5" entry gun?"

So, IMHFO let's take a look at what I think are 4 major categories of AR-15 types.

  1. The Designated Marksman Rifle or Special Purpose Rifle - Usually an 18 inch or 20 inch barrel, free float tube with M-LOK, grip-pod or bi-pod, Trijicon ACOG or some other hi quality low variable power scope, and suppressor.  The rifle is good for targets from 200 to 500 meters.
  2. The General Purpose Rifle (aka Truck Gun) - An off the rack good quality AR-15 with a sling, an AimPoint or similar gun sight, and light attached.
  3. The Hunter - Similar to the DMR/SPR but with a heftier caliber, 300 Blackout, 6.8 Remington SPC, or .25-45 Sharps.  Painted or hydro-dipped to camouflage the rifle.  Using 5-round magazines to comply with most states hunting regulations.  Used mainly for filling freezers with meat.
  4. The Entry Gun - A 16" or shorter barrel.  Aimpoint or similar red-dot sight, muzzle brake that directs gas forward, vertical or angled front grip, single point sling, and flash light.

You forget the grand-daddy of them all, Service Rifle.

Brownells does have that retro section now. 😉

Well those are some fun builds. I did a nice ar pistol build not that long ago. I will be sharing photos of it on here soon.

AR pistols are fun!

Well now I want all of them!
I have a Sight Mark red dot on my 300BLK. It's more of a budget optic but has been really accurate so far. http://amzn.to/2wqxDzf

I have to take it off with the quick detach before I put it in my soft case, otherwise it accidentially gets turned on and runs the battery down. (the on button is on the side) Seems to hold zero well.

They aren't bad for the money. I spent a bonus check and got an Aimpoint PRO. I got lucky and manage to nab it at a gunshow for $350, a dealer had a special going. As far as wanting all the guns, I'm right there with you.

Thanks for your work sir.... Love it. Followed...

You're welcome!
