Family back home, safe and sound.
Yesterday, after having enjoyed a long weekend with my father-in-law, granddad for his 70th birthday, my family finally returned home.
You don't ever want to entertain the thought, but all 3 pieces of my heart (wife & 2 sons) being over an hours drive away where anything might happen, well ... I'm just really happy nothing did.
My boys claimed they didn't miss me when talking on the phone, and even had the balls to ask me if they could stay 5 more days (it's pre-spring vacation over here). I swear, he wasn't even joking.
But when I arrived home early from work and walked into the hallway, I was thrilled to be on the receiving end of kisses hugs and being used as a climbing tree by the boys.
They talked through each other, trying to get their awesome 'vacation' story heard first. You might know what that's like. It's an interesting battle for attention. Dad, dad, listen to this! Daddy daddy know what I did !! and all this in the timespan of 30 seconds from entering the door.
The best story though is that my youngest is finally ready to get potty-trained. ... I know, he's late, or slow, or whatever. But his brother was the same.
I don't know what it is, they both just flat out refused to do it when we tried. no, don't feel like it but after this weekend (he called me on sunday to tell me the great news) he is now ready to wave diapers goodbye ... WHOOOOOO
If he's anything like his older brother, it'll now be a quick affair where he'll be fully diaperless within a week (day & night) that would be awesome.
I am just glad they're back home and safe and sound in their own bed now. I'll drink to that.

Yeah was like I don't know, 1,5 hours or so, but a lot could happen on the road.
Weer een mijlpaal, een hele fijne dat wel maar het gaat zo snel ze worden zo groot. Wel tof dat ze het leuk hebben gehad.

My grandson was a little slow to get away from the diaper as well, but we did some research and found that this is something that above average intelligence children seem to do.
well, that would make sense that seeing as my 6yo has an average IQ of 127 with his spatial and relations IQ hitting 147 or something (we had him tested)
Thanks for the reply and upvote. I sat for both a personality and IQ test. I think its good to know where you are in that food chain. I read about a study where people were asked if they would rank their intelligence as "above average". 96% said yes it was. We all seem to have an inflated opinion of ourselves. It's good, I think, to know the real "you" from a more objective point of view.
yeah for sure ... in our sons case, it was a matter of do we need to offer him extra learning handles .... he doesn't get to learn writing till next year, but he already taught himself to write ... so you know :)
