Climate Change - 2021 (IPCC New Report)
The land surface temperature peaked at 53°C in the Mediterranean this week. It was measured by Copernicus Sentinel-3. This data is over Western Turkey and over Greece.

Temperatures will rise 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels over the next 10 years. Violation of the purpose of the 2015 Paris Agreement is expected to have consequences such as widespread destruction and extreme weather conditions 🌪🔥⚡️
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its new report on 9 August 2021. The all-climate system and each region are analyzed by scientists. What's interesting is that many of these changes unprecedented in thousands of years. The scientists said that some of the changes are irrecoverable but important and sustained reductions in greenhouse gases especially CO2 emissions would limit climate change.
UN Secretary-General said, “This report should sound the death knell for coal and fossil fuels before they destroy our planet”.
The IPCC said in a press release that limiting warming to 1.5°C, or even 2°C, would be an unattainable goal without these reductions. UN Secretary-General said this report is a RED CODE for humanity.
If I summarize the results of the new report of IPCC:
1. The changes in the climate are widespread, rapid, and intensifying.
2. It is indisputable that human activities are causing climate change, raising the global surface temperature. For example: heatwaves, droughts, heavy rainfall, and tropical cyclones and are getting more frequent and severe.
3. There is currently no going back from some of the changes that affect the climate system but some rapid and sustained reductions could be slowed and could be stopped by limiting warming.
4. Climate change has effects on every region of the Earth, including the oceans in multiple ways. The changes will increase with further warming.
5. The goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C level will not be achieved unless there are immediate and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change.
Two more chapters will be published next year: The second part will focus on the impacts of the climate crisis and the third will detail potential solutions.
Even if the world manages to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, sea-level rise, Arctic ice melting, and ocean warming and acidification will continue. According to IPCC scientists, drastic reductions in emissions may prevent worse climate change, but will not return the Earth to milder weather patterns of the past.
We need a healthy Earth to live healthy and long. The truth is, if the world gets ill, humans will be destroyed.
We must be aware of the seriousness of this situation so that we can put pressure on companies and governments not to ignore climate change 🌍
I agree we "we [must] put pressure on companies and governments not to ignore climate change." Canada has decided to put Carbon Taxes across the board on commodities. Here is the tax for Gasoline
These additional taxes range from 10% to 15%. What does this buy us? The traditional news media (newspapers, TV and radio) receive payments from the government to bail them out. These payments are conditional on not contradicting or embarrassing the existing government.
We have also seen CO2 drop in Canada because people drive less (they cannot afford to) and buy more fuel-efficient cars. We have also lost a large part of our manufacturing capability. That is because most manufacturing is in countries like China with no intention of reducing their CO2 levels. China's production is much higher than any other country:
On the plus side, the plume of CO2 from China drifts over Canada, so our crop production should continue to be high.
I registered my concerns about the interpretations made by the IPCC paper here.
Hi @dwarrilow2002, thank you for sharing the up-to-date information. Carbon Taxes is a very important step against climate change. Unfortunately, many countries which have large industries do not care about these limitations. As you said, it doesn't matter where the emissions are produced, the pollution affects negatively all over the world.
The more I study the topic, the less satisfied I am with people's interpretations. As an example, some use the term "pollution" to describe Co2. Others use the term beneficial byproduct of production.
