This is another deep cut off the first album. This was another older track I wrote back in 2008. At the time I was obsessed with creating this little self contained piano loops of 8 or 16 bars. I loved just getting lost in these loops and allowing the lyrics and melodies to come to me. There are a few other versions of this song with different lyrics. I definitely punched this song up when I retooled it for "Belgrade". This song is about social interaction but in many ways it is also about FOMO and the indignation that seems to follow. This idea of presenting and posturing: who we are and what we do. What makes us interesting to ourselves and each other. It often helps me to see humanity as this bubbling blob of various insecurities that manifest themselves in different ways. It makes me feel less alone.

My producer Marko insisted on recording live drums for this song because he felt the song called for it. However when we were doing final mixes I decided against it. I used my crappy fruity loop drums. I had developed a severe case of demo-itis for this song. I was so used to hearing certain parts done in certain ways. (I read somewhere that because of this very thing Paul McCartney doesn't demo his songs anymore). I'm generally not very stubborn when it comes to the studio but I do cherish certain idiosyncrasies and form strong attachments. This album was very visceral for me. I wanted that to be obvious in the overall sound of it. I wanted it to sound a bit rushed and amateur in parts, less refined. Which might seem counter intuitive for an electronic based album.

This is actually the first collaboration between Kosta Jovanovic and I. Kosta and I were recently acquainted at this point. I asked him to come in and track some bass. The only live instrumental on this track is the bass.
