What then is net neutrality?
Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers must treat all data on the Internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. For instance, under these principles, internet service providers are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content.

The FCC cast votes to take down net neutrality rules. Which was put in action some few years back under the leadership of the former Chairman Tom Wheeler.
The vote was basically pushed forward for a while because of what seemed to be a bomb threat. The actual broadcast was halted even though some streams continued their broadcast and showed the chamber being cleared and law enforcement agencies conducting searches. After a short while, the commissioners with the audience returned to continue the process.
The votes where faced by massive opposition from Internet pioneers, tech companies, government officials and citizens. Although the Chairman Ajit Pai and his fellow Republican commissioners stayed focus to act on the matter at hand of which they did just that. The votes may have been cast but you are assured that the debate is nowhere near conclusion.
Those gunning for the take down of net neutrality claimed that it was not needed to begin with and that the Internet wasn’t “broken” when the regulations where passed in 2015. The custodians of net neutrality also argued that Internet providers will be able to reduce access to certain sites and to create Internet fast lanes in which some providers pay for faster access to their sites and services, meaning giving them an unfair advantage as compared to smaller companies with limited resources or funds that will not be able to pay for such access.

The Supporters of net neutrality also said that the FCC’s public comment period on the matter at hand was a rife with fraud.
The FCC’s vote may be cast but you can be assured that the debate is far from conclusion. It’ll take a few months for the changes to be filed with the Federal Register but as The Verge made notice, don’t expect any abrupt changes overnight.
Internet providers will more likely continue to work on subtle changes and you can almost be assured that additional legal action to bar today’s vote is on its way.
