Many of you know that I do music for a living doing weddings, retirement homes, singing telegrams, costumed venues and what ever else that comes my way. Today I had an upscale memory care center on the other side of the Quad Cities in Silvis, IL. Little did I know what treat I was in for upon my return.

My return trip took several hours and bus transfers passing through Silvis, East Moline, Moline, Rock Island and finally Davenport. I was tired and hoping to chill. After getting on the number 10 in East Moline, I heard a extremely loud voice from center of the bus. A man in an orange t-shirt was on his phone and mad as hell. He made several phone calls in this obnoxiously loud voice. He spoke how this person was not allowed on his property and cussed using the f word frequently. I was a bit nervous after several of these phone calls. I would normally speak up, but something told me to shut up. Another call came into his phone which seemed to be business in nature. Again the profanity and hyper voice.

Up to this point I had not been listening closely, however a blue collar handicapped younger fella with a cane had. The two started talking. Apparently this angry man was being harassed by the DHS with frequent calls and visits. He had been out of the slammer for a while and now had custody of his children. The mother of the children was living elsewhere but making up stories to the DHS in hopes to get her children back. The mother had a drug problem and had been in and out of court many times. She could not afford a lawyer yet couldn't get her act together to keep a lawyer when one was appointed. I am not certain of the details but the judge has been lenient toward the woman in the past.

The handicapped guy was quite knowledgeable about the system and said that the judge will not put up with this for ever. Both he and I told this angry man that he needs to record and journal these interactions with the DHS social worker. When I spoke up, I was asked if i was a lawyer. I said no but I was aware to these things. I supposed I was asked that because I was in a jacket and tie with a black bag. I did ask the angry guy a few more questions about his situation. However I did not want to push it, as I sensed he wanted to be left alone.

Though I was concerned about this guy's psychological state and was a bit fearful, I felt sorry for him and even more sorry for his children. No child should be subjected to this much instability. A big part of me felt concerned about the safety of his young ones. On the flip side these children could well end up messed up in an abusive foster home. I learned that he was heading to his sister's house in Rock Island, IL. I am assuming she has a part in their care.

Folks like this need our prayers most of all. I believe God can work in the lives of the hurting. This man was angry...violently angry.... anger is hurt externalized. I do not know his name but I would encourage all to lift up this family situation in prayer. This folks also need our information in a form of a brochure to offer them. Knowledge is power and resourceful to help minimize the damages. I can only imagine the hell he and the kids are going through.

PS: This harassment goes on in our towns and cities undetected. But it is real and causes pain to families and children. The DHS/CPS harassments should be front page news but it is not. If it was a little guy like you or i, we would end up in the slammer. Yet the CPS gets away Scott free.
