HAVE A GOOD MENTOR
"Mentorship doesn't necessarily entail an everyday physical contact. It should rather guide you into making your everyday productive."
A mentor is a more experienced and knowledgeable individual whose wisdom is relevant to an endeavor you are committed to pursuing.
A mentor teaches, guides, and rebukes. You don't have to repeat certain mistakes that others have made.
Mentorship provides you the advantage of learning in a relatively short time what it took many years to gather. Unfortunately many haven't learned how to maximize a Mentorship relationship.
To a large extent, it is the protege that determines the quality of benefit derived from the mentor. A great attitude and good understanding are very important factors.
Mentorship is not when somebody else takes over your responsibilities while you sit back and do nothing. I have met proteges who want to do nothing.
They aren't interested in reading or listening to any resourceful audio material recommended. They just want your time.
Why does a mentor need to speak to you in a subject he already has dealt with on tape or in books? Unless for the purpose of clarification, that will be a waste of time.
Mentorship doesn't necessarily entail an everyday physical contact. It should rather guide you into making your everyday productive.
A good mentor will point you to resourceful materials that will facilitate your development in the right direction.
To Make The Most Of Mentorship:
- Know exactly what you want
- Maintain a teachable spirit
- Seek and devour the mentor's materials if he has any in print or audio media.
- Ask questions that place a demand on the mentor's wisdom.
- Give frequent feedbacks and seek clarifications where necessary. Be accountable for what you are taught.
- Show seriousness. Laziness is a complete put-off.
- Seek the mentor's counsel, not his fame or money.
- Honour and celebrate your mentor as much as opportunity offers.
