The Full story of my Community Development Service

My name is Emeka Chukwude, a lab scientist, graduated from University of Benin. I am currently enrolled in the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), serving in Rivers State, Nigeria. I teach in a Community junior Secondary school in a community called Nonwa in Rivers State. From the first day I started teaching the students, I observed that many of them don't have seats and are seating on the floor. The principal later told me that they had asked for help from government, all to no avail. I started thinking of how to provide this need because it actually irritates to see some students seating on the floor writing while I was teaching. I can't even imagine that. I mean how could you even learn comfortably. Hence I decided to do something. I went to a carpenter's shop for technical and financial analysis. I thought about meeting some prominent people in the community to seek financial support for the project. I also asked my fellow corp members for support. A prominent man in the community supported with some funds and some of my fellow corp members supported too. So I was able to realize funds that will build 12 seats (4 seater capacity). I sent the money to the carpenter and he started building the seats. I called the principal and told him we will be donating 12 seats to the school. He couldn't believe it until I showed him pictures. Yesterday, 25th January, I and my fellow corp members handed over the seats to the school and my joy was overflowing, seeing the joy on the faces of this students.
