Poll editing, should we have it?

Dpoll has a new description field and a simple markdown editor inline with the recent update.

One of the things people ask is support for editing polls. From my point of view, editing the poll question and the answers doesn't make any sense since it may lead to false posivites on the answers.

Let's say I have created a poll like this:

Do you like @berniesanders?

And you have answered as "yes". After that I can edit the poll as

Do you like @haejin?

And suddently your previous answer may be obsolete.

I understand people do typos, grammar errors in the poll body. You can always edit in other infarfaces, but keeping the initial data on the dpoll as a snapshot looks like a requirement.

  • Yes.

  • No.

Answer the question at dpoll.xyz.

I answered No on the poll, but a middle ground might be good. For example, you can edit it within the first 3 minutes or something like that, allowing people to fix typos they find after they posted the poll.

This I agree with. Even making the window as long as 15 minutes is OK by me.

What about making it possible till the first vote?

That's also a nice possibility. That way the creator of it can fix typos, but can't tamper with it after someone casts a vote.

Yeah, that feels like a good solution. Thanks for the input, guys.

No. I've been watching your poll development but this is the first time I have voted. App looks sweet. Clean and easy to use. Changing polls leads to "fake news". Bad enough that polls are often intentionally worded to get the desired answer. Like "Should uneducated, welfare seeking, pregnant, dangerous, gang-involved, potential terrorist that are pretending to be asylum seekers be allowed to enter the US from Mexico?" btw watch the cold opening from SNL from last night haha

No.

Make edits visible

Creates complexity. 😪

An answer out of dpoll.

I'd say that there could be an edit option before anyone joins in the poll. Perhaps you can add a delay for participants, i.e. one can answer after a defined time has passed.

Thanks Martin.

I guess making it editable till first vote is the best solution.
