THE REVOLT

Long ago, there lived a great Queen popularly called Queen Funmi. It was at the time when giants still lived on the planet earth.

The Queen was fifteen feet tall.

She was a Wonderful woman, and an able ruler who was loved by all. There was sixteen feet tall.

His body was entirely covered with hair and his face was as dark as stone. When King Timolu, the elder brother to the queen died, Akanji the wizard nursed the ambition to be the next king of Abaratu kingdom.

But his plan failed because Funmi, the dead king's sister, ascended the throne. Akanji the wizard was so angry for being denied his desire that he raised a revolt.

His first action was to employ the water spirits, who caused a great flood in the Kingdom. This flood drove the poor people out of their homes. And when queen Funmi realized that Akanji was responsible for the suffering of her people, she declared war against him.

Now Funmi the Queen had two young warriors called Jako and Kako. She made Jako the General of her army. Jako was delighted that he was the Queen's choice. And so, he prepared himself and his soldiers for battle.

He mounted his red horse and was just about going out when he heard someone galloping hard behind him and shouting.

“Jako Stop! I must be the general the forces!"

He looked back and saw Kako his partner riding on a white horse and was drawing out his sword. Jako became angry, and as he turned to face his rival he cried.

"Troublesome! I have been appointed by the Queen to lead the soldiers to battle. How dare you stop me?"

"Yes," answered Kako. "I ought to lead the army. It is you who should follow me.

At this reply Jako's anger exploded into a flame.

"Dare you answer me in this manner?“ said Jako and leaped at Kako with his sword.

But Kako moved quickly aside and at the sarne time, raising his sword and wounded the head of the General's horse.

Jako was about to rush at his attacker when Kako, as quick as lightening, tore from his chest the badge of commandership and galloped away. The action was so quick that Jako stood confused, not knowing what to do.

The Queen had watched the fight and could not admire the quickness of the ambitious Kako and in order to pacify the rivals she determined to appoint them both to be the commanders of the army.

Soon afterwards, Jako was made commander of half of the army, and Kako of the rest army. One hundred thousand soldiers followed them and marched to stop the rebel, Akanji the wizard.

AKANJI FIGHTS WITH THE WARRIORS

Not long afterwards, the two General reached the city where Akanji the wizard hid himself. As soon as Akanji saw the soldiers approaching thecity, he said:

"How easily will I blow these two poor humans away with one breath."

With these words Akanji the wizard picked his three -edged sword and made an attempt to kill Jako. But before the wizard struck, the brave Kako turned his horse in front of Akanji the wizard and told him not to kill a fallen man.

Akanji the wizard who had been fighting was tired. He did not want to face a fresh and determined young soldier. He suddenly turned his horse round and ran away.

Jako who had been on the ground suddenly regained strength and was up on his feet again. He and his partner ram after their enemy, Jako on foot while Kako on horseback.

As soon as, Akanji the wizard noticed that the two were after him, he turned to face Kako who was closer. And pulling out an arrow from the quiver on his back, he fixed it to his bow and aimed it at Kako.

As quick as lightning, Kako avoided the arrow which only touched his helmet and fell harmlessly on the ground.

The Wizard noticed that his enemies were still unharmed. He also noticed that there was no enough time to pull a second arrow. So, to save his life, he chose to use magic.

He stretched out his magic wand and immediately a mighty flood came, the army and the brave young Generals were swept away like leaves in a stream.

Jako and Kako found themselves struggling to survive, bUt soon noticed the wicked wizard coming towards them.

The thought of death took over them, counting every second to be precious to them. But they bravely swam as far as they could from Akanji the wizard. All of a sudden they found themselves in front of something very tall rising out of the water. .

But when they locked up an old man with hair as white as snow was standing and smiling at them. Then they cried to him to help them. The old man nodded in agreement and came to the side of the water. As soon as his feet touched the flood it divided and a good road appeared before them to their surprise. Soon, the brave warriors found themselves in a safe place.

By this time, Akanji the wizard had reached the old man who had risen miraculously out of the water. And seeing that his enemies were now saved, he became angrier.

He rushed through the water to meet the old man who stood and calmly waited for the wizard.

As Akanji the wizard drew closer, the old man laughed aloud merrily and then turned into a large beautiful white bird and then flew up into the sky.

When Jako and Kako saw this, they knew that the old man was not a human being.

Soon, the sun was setting and both Akanji the wizard and the young warriors gave up the fight for another day.

THR DRAGON-MAN

That night, Jako and Kako decided that it was useless to fight against Akanji the wizard because of his powers and because they were only just humans. The next day, they presented themselves before Funmi the Queen.

After a long deliberation, the Queen decided to ask ljanla the Dragon man to help and lead her army against Akanji the wizard.

Now Ijanla the Dragon man lived only on the coldest part of the world. It was the only safe place for him to be because he burnt up everything around him anywhere he went. Ijanla the Dragon man was also a giant and who was thirty feet tall. He was master of all fire just as Akanji was master of all waters.

"Surely, ijania the Dragon man can conquer Akanji. the wizard," thought the Queen. So she sent Kako to the coldest part of the world to ask ljanla the Dragon man to fight Akanji the wizard.

Ijanla the Dragon man on hearing the Queen's request smiled and said:

"That is an easy matter! it was no one but i who came to your rescue when you and your companion were drowning in the flood raised by Akanji the Wizard!". Kako was surprised when he heard this. He thanked ljanla the Dragon man for coming to their rescue and then asked him to come with him and lead the war to defeat the wicked Akanji the wizard

Ijanla the Dragon man did all he was asked and returned with Kako to the Queen. She welcomed Ijanla the Dragon man gladly and told him why she had sent for him.

"Do not be troubled. I will certainly kill Akanji the wizard."

Ijanla the Dragon man then led the thirty thousand soldiers, with Jako and Kako showing him the way to the enemy's hideout.

But Ijanla the Dragon man knew the secret of Akanji's power. He asked all the soldiers to collext the type of leaf.

They burnt the leaves in large quantity and each soldier was then ordered to fill a bag each with the ashes.

Akanji the wizard, on the other hand, in his own plans, thought that Ijanla the Dragon man was not in his class.

"Even though you are a fire breathing man, I will soon put that fire of yours our of good."

Then the wizard repeated something incantation and water-floods rose up as high as the mountains. Ijanla the Dragon man who was not frightened by this, ordered his soldiers to scatter the ashes which he had asked them to make in the water.

Every man did as he was asked. The leaves that they had burnt proved as be very powerful. As soon as the ashes mixed with the water, a thick mud was formed, and they were all saved from drowning.

Now, Akanji the wizard was shocked when he noticed that Ijanla the Dragon man was wiser than himself. He became angrier than ever. He rushed forward towards the enemy.

Kako rode to meet him and the two fought together for some time. They matched each other's strength. Jako, who was carefully watching the fight noticed that Kako was getting tired, not wanting his partner's death, he took over his place.

But Akanji the wizard was tired too. So he said craftily:

"You make yourself so cheap to fight for your friend and then risk bring killed. I will not hurt such a good man."

And the wicked wizard pretended to have stopped the fight and turning away the head of his hors. His intention was to over throw Jako by surprise and then turn round and then attack him.

But Ijanla the Dragon man understood the crafty wizard and spoke at once:
"You are a coward! You cannot deceived me!"

Saying this, Ijanla the Dragon man made a sign to attack him.
Akanji the wizard turned to face Ijanla the Dragon man angrily, but he was tired and unable to fight well and soon, received a wound in his shoulder. He tried to escape many times.

while the fight between their leaders had been on the two armies had stood awaiting for orders. Ijanla the Dragon man now turned and asked the soldiers to fight the enemy forces. They fought very well and defeated them greatly, the wizard only managed to escape.

It was in vain that Akanji the wizard called on the water spirits to help him. Ijanla the Dragon man had over powered them.

With disappointment and with the speed of lightning, the wizard dashed into the highest mountain in the world and died.

AKANJI DIES

But the force with which the wizard hit the mountain was so great that the highest mountain in the world erupted and fire gushed out from it.

Ijanla the Dragon man took up the body of the wizard and carried it to Queen Funnily, who rejoiced greatly that her enemy was no more and her generals victorious. She gave different types of gifts an DC conferred honours on Ijanla the Dragon man.

But all this time fire was gushing out from under the mountain. Villages were destroyed, farm were burnt up, river beds filled with the burning lava and the homeless people were in great sorrow.

And then, the sky, which had been making a noise all the while, suddenly began to crack from the bottom to the top.

After a while, the sky lost control and crashed down to the earth.

The Queen left the capital as soon as she had rewarded Ijanla the Dragon man and returned. She found out that the damage done by the fallen sky and set to work to repair the damage.

As a result of this, she ordered her people to collect different coloured stones which were blue, yellow, red, white and black. With these, she boiled the stones in a large pond with the help of the Dragon man who supplied the fire. The mixture became a beautiful paste. With this paste, she knew that she could mend the sky. Now all was ready.

Inviting the clouds, she rode towards the heaven carrying in her hands the large pot which contained the paste made from the stones o FC many colours. Soon, she reached the part of the sky which had fallen off and applied the paste with which she mended it. When this was finished she rode the clouds back to the earth hoping that all was now right. But to her surprise she found that it was still very dark. The sun did hit shine by day or the moon by night.

Greatly disturbed, she called a meeting of all the wise men of her kingdom and asked for their advice.

Two of the wisest said:
"The roads to Heaven have been damaged by the fallen sky, therefore, the Sun and Moon have been forced to stay at home.

The Sun and Moon never knew that your majesty has amended all that was damaged, so we will go and inform them that since you have repaired them the roads are safe.

The Queen approved the saying of the wise man and ordered them to set out on their mission. But this was not easy, for the Palace of the Sun and Moon are many, many hundreds of thousands of miles away.

If they traveled on foot they might never reach the place, they would die of old age on the road. But Funmi had some magic.

She gave her two wise men magical chariots which flew them through the sky. They set out riding above the clouds and after many days they reached the country where the Sun and the Moon lived together.

THE TWO WISE MEN

The two wise men were welcomed by the Sun and the Moon, and we're asked why they had come. Did they not know that their action had thrown the world and its entire people into darkness both day and night, said Sun and Moon.

"Surely you know that the highest mountain has suddenly burst into fire and the roads to Heaven gave been damaged!

I, Sun, found it impossible to make my daily journey along such rough roads. And certainly Moon could not give its night as well! Do we both stay at home."

Then the two wise men said:
"Our Queen, Funmi has already repaired the roads with the wonderful stones of many colours, so we plead your Majesties that the roads are in good form."

But Sun and Moon refused, saying that they had heard that one of the pillars of the place had been broken as well and feared that even if the roads had been repaired, it would still be dangerous for us.

"You need have no anxiety about the broken pillar," said the two wise men. "Our Queen had already restored it and it is as strong as ever."

Then Sun and Moon were satisfied and they both set out by the roads. They found that what they said was truth.

The Sun and Moon again gave light to the earth. All the people rejoiced greatly and peace and prosperity returned to Abaratu kingdom for a very long time under the reign of the wise Queen Funmi.
