Please accept my warm greetings members of this community and my fellow steemians this is my first post in any community apart from the newcomers community I hope I'm welcome here.
Smoking like every self destructive and addictive behavior is something it's partakers try to stop but find very difficult to quit and just wished they had never started smoking in the first place other smokers won't even admit or try to stop smoking because they believe they can't do without and they don't have the kind of discipline and willpower to quit it, but whether you think you should quit smoking or not allow me to tell you how and why.

WHY QUIT SMOKING.

IT ENDANGERS YOUR LIFE

''The federal ministry of health warns that smokers are liable to die young'' these words are found written very boldly on the packet of every cigarette in Nigeria and other different warning and signs against smoking all over the world. This can make one conclude that smoking is not for those who want or intend to live a happy, healthy and long life, this on its own is a reason one should want to quit smoking because the probability that a long term smoker will be killed by tobacco is one in two research shows that the cigarettes are made with just enough nicotine to keep smokers craving and addicted to it for life before it finally kills them. Smoking has be found to be part of the causes of at least twenty two life threatening diseases, diseases like lung cancer, emphysema, stroke, chronic broncnitis are majorly caused by smoking.
Some think smokers are cool and are big boys and girls having fun but to be frank smoking makes your breath stink and darkens your lips and hands, smoking makes your teeth brownish yellow and it causes wrinkling of the face at a young age.

SMOKING HAS ADVERSE EFFECTS ON OTHERS.

Smoking does not only hurt us it also have adverse effects on the people around us, are you a smoker who just got pregnant or a newly wed moving in with his or her partner, a soon to be father a boss with employees. Do you take into consideration the effects smoking will have on your spouse or unborn child, your baby boy or girl, your work mates anytime you decide to smoke, we all have choice and freedoms, your work mates and Radom people you meet daily might respect your choice to endager your life and keep on smoking and even if they complain and and hiss or stare at you probably won't care but what about your family and loved and children do you want to see them get sick or pick up the same habit of smoking or have to watch you die slowly as you struggle with lung cancer and use up their life savings to ensure you are being medically cared for just because you could not control your urges and stop smoking.

THE COST OF SMOKING IS HIGH

Another very important reason a smoker should probably give up his addiction is the amount of cash and percentage of his salary he or she burns just to statisfy the urges, to know how you spend personally in a year just calculate how much you spend on cigarettes or whatever you smoke and multiply it by 365. But know that the cost for treatment when you start facing the consequences will be far more greater, a survey conducted by the world bank shows that an estimate of 200 billion dollars is spent on health care issues caused by smoking but this does not consist of the amount of pain and stress it causes.

Just like learning a new skill quitting smoking is very unlikely to be successful completed upon our first trial but only with commitment and determination will we be able to fight through the relapses and setbacks.

PREPARE YOUR MIND TO QUIT

To prepare your mind you must first convince yourself why it will benefit you to quit, calculate how much money you will be saving in a year and why quiting is worth the effort and stress, this will be very helpful when you finally quit and feel like going back to that habit of smoking you can remind yourself why you started in the first place.
Next You can try to analyze days on which you smoke the most, find out what triggers you and why You will also find it very helpful to write in a jotter where you tend to smoke the most all these records will help you forsee where the cravings and temptations are likely to come from.

PLAN A DATE TO QUIT

Set a quit date a day you know will be stress free and mark it on your calendar and when that day you planned to quit comes completely and totally quit. And before the quit date you can consider telling family or friends who care about you and has wanted you to quit for the longest time, they support and motivate you anytime you want to relapse, also burn your clothes that smell of tobacco and get rid of matches, lighter and ashtrays. On the day you quit you should make plans to go and stay somewhere where smoking is prohibited.

DEALING WITH WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

If you are a heavy smoker the symptoms will begin hours after you take the last stick or wrap, you may start to feel restless, depressed and anxiety, to ease the symptoms try eating food with little calories, drink plenty water and exercise also eat fruits it will help.

Tobacco (i.e. cigarettes, bidis, kretek, cigars etc) contains a poisonous alkaloid known as nicotine. When this gets to the brain, it releases dopamine (a feel-good chemical) thus leading to addiction.

I stated this because sometimes, it is difficult for smokers to quit smoking.
