It’s Snowing!

When did I lose my childlike excitement for snow? When did I become the person who needs to get bread, milk, and eggs in the event the snow shuts down the city? Can I rekindle my delight of the snow falling. These were my musings today.

So, I took to my favorite thinking spot to ponder these questions. As good fortune would have it, it is my hot tub, on my deck out back. This was the ideal place to contemplate what seemed initially as two incompatable points of view.

As I soaked, it dawned on me that these two opposing views could coexist peacefully. The contrast of whisps of steam rising up to meet the falling snow, was a sight to behold. I realized that through contrast I could see the appeal of allowing myself to feel excitement and experience the joy of falling snow, while maintaining the wisdom of a hearty New Englander in the face of a storm.

Enthralled with my new insight, I drank in the natural wonders that surrounded me. I stared in amazement at the green pine trees lightly blanketed with snow in my neighbors yard. They dared to flourish while other trees opted to go dormant for the winter.

Next, my gaze fell upon my flowering pear tree that was hunkered down for the winter. While just a few feet away was the arborvitae privacy hedge standing tall. Steadfast in its mission to bring color and life into the dead of winter.

The warmth of the hot tub and the cool sensation of snow gently falling on my face reinvigorated me and eased my mind. Often the answers we seek in life can be found in the natural contrast that exists in nature. I realize now that being prepared to weather the storm doesn’t exclude relishing in the magnificent elements of nature.

I await the next snow fall with baited breath!
