Contest Entry: Culture and Practices
Hello to all,
Let me begin by extending my appreciation to the leaders of the community to our wonderful people for the wonderful contest always.
For this contest we are to talk about some culture and their practices and the possible reasons why they do that i would be talking about my culture thus Akan culture looking at our funeral rites.
In the Akan culture when one losses a loved one is that much of a big deal not just for the person but for the entire community where the person may have found him or herself.
Because of which it is one of the most serious cultural practices considered. It is believed that the deceased needs his back to be covered well so he or she can continue his or her journey to the underworld successfully.
So during this time mourner wear black or red to signify they seriousness and sadness, for a particular age group white may be won to signify that life was lived to the fullest.
Items such as money are also given to the corpse before burial to help the spirit pay for the journey's toll. For those who may have had the opportunity to witness you learn a lot.
And so this is my entry to the contest and i hope you got something out of it. Thanks for your time.
