Alcuni si sono costruiti delle baracche di fortuna, con materiali di recupero, altri semplicemente hanno posto una loro tenda e quelli più intraprendenti si sono sistemati nelle numerose grotte naturali presenti nella zona.

Ricordo la prima volta che vidi la zona, sembra di essere in uno di quei film western, ambientato in Arizona, davvero un bel posto, oltretutto a poche centinaia di metri dal mare!

La presenza degli hippie ha subito catturato la mia attenzione.
Dato il mio passato come camperista, mi sembrava una buona opportunità quella di provare in un qualche modo a valutare la possibilità di sistemarmi e vivere in uno stile più semplice, libero e meno condizionato dalla necessità di lavorare per poter mangiare e vivere.
A Tenerife non avevo problemi di alloggio, avevo un divano su cui dormire, in un appartamento in cui prestavo servizio come volontario, e nonostante l’appartamento fosse decisamente sofraffollato un tetto sotto cui stare era garantito.

Ogni volta che andavo nel barranco mi balinava nel cervello l’idea:
“e se tutto andasse male, niente lavoro, niente soldi, non sarebbe un buona idea rifugiarmi qui e condurre una vita più semplice?”

Presto con i miei ragionamenti coinvolsi un altro ragazzo italiano, anche lui viveva nell’appartamento, e un giorno decidemmo di andare a dare un’occhiata assieme.
Anche lui pensò che non era male provare un’esperienza diversa dal solito e, siccome aveva fatto un passato il muratore e carpentiere, mi propose di mettere le sue abilità a disposizione per costruire una sistemazione di fortuna da condividere.

Era dunque deciso, ci saremmo costruiti la nostra “baracca nel barranco”, un nostro rifugio per testare concretamente la reale possibilità di vivere in maniera non convenzionale.

Il giorno seguente andammo a perlustrare meglio la zona, volevamo studiare meglio dove collocare il nostro futuro “palazzo imperiale”. Visto che eravamo in vena di perlustrare al meglio la zona, gli proposi un percorso diverso che avevo fatto qualche giorno prima.

Some have built makeshift shacks, with recycled materials, others simply placed their tent and the most enterprising ones have settled in the numerous natural caves in the area.

I remember the first time I saw the area, it seems to be in one of those westerns, set in Arizona, a really nice place, plus a few hundred meters from the sea!

The presence of the hippies immediately caught my attention.
Given my past as a camper, it seemed like a good opportunity to try in some way to evaluate the possibility of settling down and living in a simpler style, free and less conditioned by the need to work to eat and live.
In Tenerife I had no problems with accommodation, I had a sofa to sleep on, in an apartment where I was a volunteer, and although the apartment was definitely overcrowded a roof under which it was guaranteed.

Every time I went to the barranco the idea flashed through my mind:
"And if everything goes wrong, no work, no money, would not it be a good idea to take refuge here and lead a simpler life?"

Soon with my arguments involved another Italian boy, he also lived in the apartment, and one day we decided to go and have a look together.
He too thought it was not bad to try a different experience and, as he had done the mason and carpenter a past, he proposed to put his skills at his disposal to build a makeshift accommodation to share.

It was therefore decided, we would have built our "shack in the barranco", our shelter to concretely test the real possibility of living in an unconventional way.

The following day, we went to better explore the area, we wanted to better study where to place our future "imperial palace". Since we were in the mood to scour the area, I proposed a different route that I had done a few days before.
