CREATING YOUR TRAVEL BUCKET LIST: WHAT DESTINATIONS SUIT YOU?
19 Dec 2017

When it comes to deciding where you want to travel to and experience in your lifetime, it can be extremely hard to narrow everything down. The world is a beautiful place, and unless you have a bottomless pit of money, you will not be able to see every part of it. Therefore, like many people, you can make a bucket list of all the places you hope to see before you die, and throw your all into achieving every destination.

However, choosing said destinations can be extremely difficult as there is quite literally an overwhelming amount to decipher. Below, a few destinations have been split into three different types, and you may find one that best suits you, making your decision a whole lot easier. Of course, it will require some saving, but you may just find yourself making a dent in the list in the not so distant future.

Relaxing Tropical Island
If the sound of white sandy beaches, palm trees, and a welcoming, warm sea makes you want to close your eyes and start daydreaming, these destinations may be for you.

Bali

If you know anyone who has travelled to Bali, you would have heard them rave about it. As well as stunning beaches, Bali is also home to infinity pools which stretch right out to a cliff’s edge overlooking stunning views. The relatively cheap living costs mean you could stay quite a long time and really immerse yourself into the culture and cuisine that is so raved about by many backpackers. You could even look at a website like rumahdijual.com/bali/ look for some accommodation to rent while you are out there. This will considerably cut down your living costs, as you can cook and prepare all your own food, and not have to worry about finding a hotel with a room free for long enough.

Barbados

Surrounded by gorgeous Coral Reefs to go diving and snorkeling in, Barbados is a popular destination for both European and American tourists. If you do feel like exploring, rather than just relaxing on the beach, there is the infamous Harrison’s Cave which is home to a network of underground lakes and waterfalls. The majority of rented accommodation is right on the beach so you’ll enjoy panoramic photo opportunities for the entirety of your trip to create quite a spectacular Instagram feed. Barbados is also excellent for walking - due to its peaked centre - so you can really relax and breathe whilst taking in the beautiful inland sights. Walking tours are available for pretty much every type of accommodation, so you won’t be missing out wherever you choose to stay.

Bahamas

Making a list of why you should visit the Caribbean Islands is not difficult, and there are a lot more reason to list than just the paradise beaches, and warm weather. Of course, temperatures rarely dipping below 60 degrees will already have many sun lovers booking plane tickets, the crystal clear waters are home to some spectacular marine life which makes the Bahamas the prime destination for divers and snorkelers. You can also shop to your heart's content from the craft markets and unique stalls that lay across the island. You may also catch a glimpse of the very famous swimming pigs in Exuma, which is puzzling and fascinating all at the same time. Be sure to island hop during your stay, as the Bahamas is actually home to 700 different islands, so see how many you can visit on your trip. Some are even home to the picturesque pink sand beaches - although Harbour Island is known to have the brightest pink - the sand is thought to get its colour from broken up pieces of coral.

Rural Pastures Waiting To Be Explored
If you are prone to throwing a backpack on and just seeing where you end up, hoping to stumble across stunning views and little architectural gems, these following destinations may be right up your street.

Iceland

Famously known for the viewings of the Northern Lights, and the filming of the hit TV series “Game of Thrones”, Iceland has maintained popularity as a destination of choice for many years. Home to the beautiful Icelandic horse, and over 4000 square metres of glacier, you can’t visit without taking a pony ride or walking over the ice in some way. With black lava beaches, and the impressive volcanoes and Dettifoss Waterfall, you will have to have a packed itinerary every day to try and see all the beauty that Iceland has to offer. Be sure to take a dip in the geothermal waters that the Blue Lagoon has to offer to, as many people still have this on their bucket list waiting to be ticked off.

Peru

The home of the most famous bear, Paddington, and the destination that tops many a bucket list - Machu Picchu - Peru can rival even the most popular of destinations. You can visit Lima which boasts the 1,800-year-old ruins of Huaca Pucllana or take a rickety old train to the most visited tourist destination in South America - the previously mentioned Machu Picchu. There is also the cloud surround cliff top in Kuelap which is one of many sites to hold Peruvian ruins with impressive engravings. Peru also has three Amazon regions and holds the sacred lake waters known as “the birthplace of the sun” - Lake Titicaca.

New Zealand

Chosen as the filming location for “Lord of the Rings”, New Zealand pretty much has everything from tropical beaches to ice glaciers and snow covered mountains to volcanoes. Though it may be a little far to travel, you are bound to have one of the most exciting and memorable experiences in your life visiting this country. You may even make some lifelong friends - “Kiwis” as the locals are called, are known to be some of the most friendly and welcoming people to walk the earth. You can also fuel your adrenaline craving with all of the outdoor activities available to you. There’s kayaking, snowboarding, skydiving, parachuting and horseback riding. You also might catch a glimpse of a Kiwi bird, which has become New Zealand’s national symbol and can be found nowhere else in the world.

Culture Rich Cities To Immerse Yourself In
If you want your feet to ache at the end of a day viewing famous landmarks and losing yourself in famous artworks of the greats in museum, your bucket list should be hosting these culture-rich cities at the top.

Krakow

This may not be the first city you think of when travelling to Poland; however, in recent years, it has grown immensely in popularity. Home to some of the biggest war monuments and memorials from WWII, and the delicious “Lesser Poland” food which is unique to this part of Poland, this city will immerse you into a culture like you have never known. It has a buzzing, café culture packed town square known as the “Old Town”, with a beautiful market selling some of the world’s finest amber jewellery, and the famous hourly bugle tune played from the highest tower of St Mary’s Church. Within walking distance from the town in the city centre you will find the Jewish Quarter, which even though it does not remain a separate city, its unique culture and vibe still remain.

Paris

Coined as the “City Of Love”, and for a very good reason, Paris is one of the most romantic destinations on this list. There is nothing quite like sitting under the Eiffel Tower watching it sparkle every hour into the night with your loved one or a group of friends. There is the amazing food - that blesses the street with that gorgeous freshly baked smell every morning, and the very popular Champs De Elysee shops to get lost in. With Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur and the Moulin Rouge - you will never run out of things to see in Paris. You also have the very famous Louvre home to the Mona Lisa, which you cannot miss should you find yourself in France’s capital city.

New York

Songs have been written to encapsulate the love some people hold for this city, and it really can sweep you off your feet. With buildings as high as the Empire State, and the many lights of Times Square it can be easy to feel overwhelmed in amongst all the people and bright yellow taxis. You can take a tour of the famous filming destinations of all your favourite films, and go for a stroll and a picnic in Central Park - if it’s not too cold! You can even pay respect to the history of the city and visit Ground Zero, the site of the late Twin Towers, which houses a beautiful tribute to the lives lost on September 11th, 2001. You also must not forget Broadway, which is home some of the most celebrated and talented shows in the world.

Whatever you look for when travelling, there is sure to be enough destinations in the world to fill your bucket list to the brim. Hopefully, this list has helped you to decide what type of destination will best suit you, meaning you’ll have a memorable and fulfilling time on your travels.
