The Chewing-Gum Man

in #art5 years ago

I always share with you things that draw my attention, things I love, places that get me excited and generally I try to share my thoughts by not becoming boring -I really hope I haven't been.. I was browsing my photo albums for a long time now cause I wanted desperately to show you something really incredible.. To show you how a creative mind can turn something ugly and disgusting into something beautiful... I have finally made it so let's go!

You all know that in order to enjoy art, you have to go to museums or galleries.. However this is not always the case. Have you ever imagined pieces of art scattered on the ground right under your feet?

On London’s Millennium Bridge there is an incredible artist, called Ben Wilson, who has turned hundreds of chewing gum blobs into tiny works of art. It is really amazing how by treating this ubiquitous waste as a canvas, he creates a thought-provoking intervention in a public space.

For more than a decade he has turned over 10,000 chewing gums into miniature canvasses. He has perfected a technique using a blowtorch and layers of acrylic paint and lacquer to make tiny, shining works of art at our feet. Maybe it's the only time that looking down is more interesting than looking up.. They might be easy to miss but once you spot one painted gum, you suddenly see them all...

But, are his parents proud of him? :-)

LoL that's a good question... If I were his mum I know I would advise him to wear gloves while painting or at least thoroughly wash his hands after painting....
