Brodie Desperately Needs A Strong Second Half From Robinson CanosteemCreated with Sketch.

Brodie staked a lot of the trade for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz. The team traded two of its top 4 prospects for the two Mariners in hope for the team to content this season.

2019 is an abysmal failure with Cano and Diaz heading the pack. Both were abysmal the first half of the season shouldering much of the burden for the team's failures.

Cano is the heavyweight in the deal. Brodie risked a lot on a 36 year old player coming off a suspension for a masking agent who was owed $120 million before this season.

The fact that Cano is putting up career worst numbers, by far, does not sit well with fans.

Brodie was brash entering the season after a flurry of moves meant to bolster the team. Sadly, almost all have failed leaving the Mets in a desperate situation. The well-dressed agent-turned-GM is in need of a win to pacify fans. Cano is the option that is most needed.

It is true that Cano suffered a couple of hand injuries which could be the reason for his poor performance at the plate. The last ten games saw Robby return his usual form, hitting close to .350 with a couple of HRs. For Brodie, it is going to take a lot more of that.

Players his age tend to go downhill quickly. Cano needs to put some belief out there that he has not lost it. A good second half would go a long way to showing the baseball world, and Met fans in particular, that he is still capable of putting up his usual numbers.

If not, fours years is a lot time to wait out a contract.
