It is the period of the human life that goes from birth to puberty; during this stage of the child's life the sexual function is innate, it does not possess any type of discrimination, which means that the physiological variant of sex and its function, is in its full expression. This is why sexual responses can be observed in children, caused by sexual situations/ stimuli of any kind, such as those generated by parents, cousins, siblings, friends or animals.

Studies have shown that from a very early age, boys experience sexual stimulation/response situations, as in the case of girls just days old when they were born during the shower, when they are manipulated by the mother in their genitals, they respond to this stimulus with what is known as vaginal lubrication, as well as boys who are observed having an erection during an ultrasound scan.

Childhood sex play, or so-called "child sex play", is the entire sexual manifestation expressed by children. It should be noted that the attitude of the parents towards the child who is discovered when he or she is playing a sexual game may be a determining factor for him or her, either because he or she is punished, repressed or, on the contrary, is given understanding and guidance appropriate to his or her age.

Bianco (1978), on the other hand, affirms that the exercise of sexual function is the encounter between children, brothers, cousins or friends, in which some type of sexual stimulation occurs, such as the self manipulation of the genitals, showing nudity, attempts at coitus, hereto acts and homosexuals. This stimulation occurs as a result of a game such as "Mom and Dad" or it may occur as a result of curiosity. It should be noted that this stage is transitory and does not define the child's sexual pattern, as he or she has not reached the necessary maturity.
