We Can't Save The World...
But We Can Try.
In The Philippines, millions of people live in poverty and the saddest part is that innocent children suffer. They don't know they are suffering though and you see smiles on their faces when they have so little. Some children go to work in garbage dumps to search for anything of value that they can recycle or sell.
Many of the children living and working in dumpsites are born into extreme poverty and have very little opportunity to escape the cycle and it really makes me feel sad.
How can there be so much suffering in the world in this modern day of technology and so much wealth? I have been thinking about this a lot lately and asking myself why can't there be more done. There is so much money and many people have so much that they could never spend it all and billionaires who own so many luxurious items that they don't need or sometimes don't even use.
People actually live in and around these dumps and have created their own communities. There are homes, child day care center and even small chapels. The dumpsites are privately owned which makes makes all of the residents there illegal squatters. Many people call these dumpsites home and conditions are horrible and the smell of garbage extremely strong.
There are some foundations that are helping these communities with necessities but I hope there can be more done and more billionaires will give to help extreme poverty all around the world.
What made me start thinking about all this more lately is a post on Steemit that I came across about the member flagging spam. He did say that he knows a lot of the spam is from poor people from third world countries that he is flagging. I'm sure these people who are desperate, have no idea what spam is and are only trying to earn a little money on here. Seeing people live in these horrible conditions should make us all be thankful for everything that we have. It's so easy to take the little things for granted like running water, air conditioning and screened windows and doors. I can't imagine how these homes are inside when there are no screens on the windows or doors.
There must be a way to help more, anything would help these people. Maybe first world countries can donate unused or leftover material from things like unused construction material. I know there are always going to be poor people but I don't think the world should allow children to live in extreme poverty like this any longer.
These children don't know any other way and they somehow usually have a smile on their face.
Sad to see but this is the true Thank you for sharing @elegente just give you up vote
Hi @sakhone! This is sad. Where are you from?
Thank you for commenting @sakhone. And thank you for the vote!
Hi, @elegente thank for your post. I know very well the Philippine and I see poor family sleeping in the street a few time. This very hard but there is a few things to change the trainee law when someone finds a job and had to work for free for 6 months this is unbelievable in any country of the world. Also yes the ones who own the wealth are about 1% of the world population but they are richer then the 99% a new order had to be put in place by the people for the people
The 1% probably doesn't care about these children which is very sad.
You're welcome @ricko66!
Very sad. Hard to believe this is in our world.
Children shouldn't have to suffer in extreme poverty like this. There is more than enough money to help them.
These people need some help.
The foundations and charities can hopefully help more.
I hope so.
I hope so.
