2018 and beyond — the years for altcoins dominance

I want to start this by first defining important words:

Cryptocurrency — is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. A cryptocurrency is difficult to counterfeit because of this security feature. A defining feature of a cryptocurrency, and arguably its most endearing allure, is its organic nature; it is not issued by any central authority, rendering it theoretically immune to government interference or manipulation.

Bitcoin — was the first cryptocurrency to capture the public imagination was Bitcoin, which was launched in 2009 by an individual or group known under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

Altcoin — are the alternative cryptocurrencies launched after the success of Bitcoin. Generally, they project themselves as better substitutes to Bitcoin. The success of Bitcoin as the first peer-to-peer digital currency paved the way for many to follow. Many altcoins are trying to target any perceived limitations that Bitcoin has and come up with newer versions with competitive advantages. There is a great variety of altcoins.

Cryptocurrencies growth was tremendously surprising from $1,596,170,359 in April 28, 2013 with just 7 cryptocurrencies to $822,534,709,108 in January 7, 2018 with 1355 cryptocurrencies.

However comparing it to global stock market capitalization of $64.854 Trillion in 2016, cryptocurrencies is still relatively small. Even Fed Chair Janet Yellen have commented on this and she said, “Bitcoin at this time plays a very small role in the payment system. It is not a stable source of value and it does not constitute legal tender. It is a highly speculative asset. She also added, that the Fed doesn’t really play any regulatory role with respect to bitcoin, other than assuring that banking organizations that we do supervise are attentive, that they are appropriately managing any interactions they have with participants in that market, and appropriately monitoring anti-money laundering, bank secrecy act responsibilities that they have.”

I agree to Fed Chair at some point. However, over the longer term, the market capitalization of global cryptocurrencies will rise to a point that it is even higher than the global stock market. During 2017, we are seeing some shift of global funds into the cryptocurrencies and more funds will follow. Aside from it, the global regulators, including the central banks will regulate it or the challenge to develop a one global cryptocurrency that is the future money accepted and regulated worldwide.

While the some regulators are banning, acting, researching the possible impact of cryptocurrencies in the global financial system, I’m just also one of you guys waiting for their final decision and future action.

Now I want to turn you back again to current cryptocurrencies scenario. 2017 is I think the best performance of Bitcoin. Personally I sell my Bitcoin September / October of 2017. Why because I think Bitcoin already peaked.

According to the chart above, May 21, 2017 was the first time when altcoins overtake / altcoins are higher than bitcoin already; see a consolidation phase at July 30, 2017 to October 8, 2017; Bitcoin regain its position on October 15, 2017 until December 17, 2017. The last two weeks of 2017, altcoins starting to gain traction, beginning 2018, we see a tremendous surge of altcoins, and I think and believe that this will be the trend forward.

Why I’m favoring new altcoins? Because the growth potential is much higher as compare to the ones that already peaked. But of course, careful research must be done and of course monitoring the crypto progress / development.
