Man vs Machine! What will our fate be?
From transformers to science fiction and to all these articles, documentaries and books that suggest if the world is to come to an end, then it’s the machines turning against their makers. Technology specifically in the field of Artificial intelligence has made some serious strides, and if you think AI is all about some robot controlled by someone somewhere behind a computer, then you are still Ages back ignorant. In fact artificial intelligence now has reached to a stage that there is no person seated in the control room 24 7, controlling some robot; but rather machines today are able to run from deployment day to their end of life date performing what they ought to do without supervision, there exists reports of existing AI systems that have the ability to code their own children (that is AI can now create self). Through machine learning, AI can now improve self without man intervening and many more extreme developments are coming up. These development don’t mean we are at the future since man has not yet stopped dreaming or inventing.
As AI evolves to more and more intelligence, there is one question that is still highly under attended. People have concentrated in developing extremely intelligent systems and forgotten what the primary issue is; Control. That is In case we are finally able to crack the code and we create machines with advanced character traits of a human being, if we are able to create machines that not only mimic but rather have the intuition, ego, analytical mind, conscious, cognitive skills, etc. of a man; then who will be in control? What if the lethal intelligent weapons land in the wrong hands, what will happen, what if the machines rebel against man? What will man do in case of all these scenarios?
the problem is that man is too much focused on how he can create an even more intelligent machine, how will he be able to make a machine that not only mimics the human brain and mind but has the mind and intelligence higher and more advanced than human beings. Well you may say what's wrong with that?! Hmmm actually there is a very big issue here. My opinion what needs to be given more priority is address the challenge of control or else we will end up being completely destroyed by our own creation. 'The machine could rise up against man and there will be no stopping them...' as suggested by one scholar. We hold the fate of the world in our hands. some really important and great inventions have already landed the world into catastrophic repercussion like the discovery of nuclear power, but the worst is yet to happen as experts have predicted of the looming danger as AI is getting advanced rather faster than man's ability to handle challenges that it pauses. As technology advances AI needs to remain what it is our inferior and assistant but not our leader. We need to ascertain our dominion over the things we make, we are the rulers not them. As we make machines even smarter and intelligent, there needs be a line drawn between man and object, because that's what AI is, an object! Period. Let's not be intelligent fools and blind. Let’s not be blinded by our ambitions because as it is now, we are digging our own trap.
