The "Oliver Twist" mentality in us all.

in #life6 years ago

Human nature is mostly never satisfied with the given or available. The mind is one pyramid of thoughts aiming to get much more than is fit or known as readily available.

We all want to have some more and even when we are so sure we will or may never get what we seek, we dare to dream and stretch out our hands asking for more.
The moment you step out from your comfort zone to venture outside, you become an OliverTwist.

For those who don't know.

Growing up, I got really fascinated with the 1838 story book titled, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, an English writer and social critic.

Oliver Twist is a story about an orphan born in a workhouse and then sold into apprenticeship with an undertaker.
You can imagine how he had to sleep inside the coffins and going days without food and also being treated harshly despite the harsh labor he is faced with.

Blessed!

Oliver soon escapes and travels to London to seek out a better life on the harsh streets and then meets the "Artful Dodger", a member of a gang of juvenile pickpockets led by the elderly criminal Fagin.

As the story is, we are all in one way or the other seeking to have a better offering and hence we move from jobs to jobs, businesses to businesses, social media platforms to social media platforms and we do what we know we can to make sure we get something better than we have or had.

More means "a greater or additional amount or degree."
It is not juts about the regular, it is about the irregular that makes us see that we are never okay with what we have and sadly as it may sound, we will never be okay.

Everyone needs a little bit more.

Money is enough, and the purse will go empty if more is not added. The drive is usually geared towards a need to own as much as is need, most times, more than is need.

More is good and makes the long harsh journey easy to go through if we can just keep getting more of the stuffs we desire as we go down the road.
The moment we are born, we are thrust into some kind of apprenticeship with the good, the bad and the ugly and having to navigate through life can be tricky because, we didn't get a chance to choose where we are placed.

Take more and give more. Learn to cultivate the habit of working based on your understanding that, there is nothing wrong with wanting more and if you are tagged Oliver Twist, you deserve to be happy.
Getting to pretend we are okay with what we are given when we are not, is the first step to failing. We must stretch out our hands when the need arise.

You don't have to like the company.

On your journey, you will or may have to team up with the Artful Dodgers and Fagins of this day, and are they hideous looking or what?

You don't have to like the company and you definitely don't have to be a fan, but you have to learn to move with the people who will help you get and give value.

The whole idea of venturing out of our comfort zone is so we are able to start out doing something and those things we never will think possible or even close to what we should do on a normal day.
You will be faced with situations not really cool and you may have to kiss a frog, dance with Medusa or even go skinny dipping with the sharks.

Oliver Twist didn't get more when he asked for it, he was even beaten and had to go to bed hungrier.

Be comfortable with you and learn to ask for more because if you do not, you may never get the chance to find out your true worth. There are those who despite the stories of scarcity they tell, you get to see them eating so fat you will wonder if you existed on the same planet.

Make the world a better place for someone today!
