I thought you knew! #17: President McKinley dies of gunshot wounds
Did you know that on this day in 1901, then President William McKinley died from gunshots wound he sustained from a failed assassination attempt 8 days earlier. Well, I thought you knew!
A 28year old polish immigrant turned anarchist named Leon Czolgosz shot President McKinley twice in the chest while he was on a long reception line at the Pan-American Exhibition in Buffalo, New York.
The assassin concealed the gun in a white handkerchief and Mckinley was said to have mistaken it for a physical defect.
As at the time of his death 8 days after the incident, President McKinley's last words where "Nearer my God to thee."
