The concept of Valentine
In the era of love, so many believe sex prevail. Valentine is a day known for lovers, a day when people in relationships exchange gifts and take out time specially for one another, but is that how it really works?
What is the valentine day celebration all about?
There is this in-house joke I and a few friends make, it goes thus:
If you are born in late November, congrats, you are a product of valentine's day celebration.
As crazy as that joke sounds, it actually has this way of making you calculate the distance from February till November which is actually nine months.
Valentine started as a sacrifice from a saint known as Valentine. The saint Valentine whom the day is marked is actually one controversial figure with different stories attached to the legend.
In some places, it is believed that he was a saint who went against the emperor's law to outlaw marriages among soldiers because he felt the single men in active military service were more effective than their married counterparts.
In other areas, he was believed to be someone who was a liberator. The truth of every story attached to this saint is that he was a person who gave another definition to love.
He made people feel his impact long before the celebration even became official.
People believe that is the day when you must show love, but others believe we show love everyday. So many people see Valentine's day as a day to freely have sex. To those people, they believe sex must happen on that day and it is the proof of love on that day.
The truth is that love is something shown every other day, not restricted nor confined to a particular day. Gifts among lovers should be shared any day of the year not only on February 14. The mindset behind the action of the saint who popularized that which we now call Valentine's day celebration was simply to show the world that love can exist anywhere we find ourselves.
See it as a day to renew your love for others around you and not just yourself, see it as a day to not only give gifts and get laid, but rather, as a day to reflect on the love we have shown others and will show others.
That doesn't mean the dates should not happen, heck! have fun and feel fresh, however, ensure your love is not confined to selfish intentions.
This year's valentine happens to be on the same day as the Ash Wednesday which marks the start of lent for Catholics worldwide. This makes it perfect for us to combine love with reflection and make the perfect definition to the meaning of love this season.
Like I earlier stated, this however does not stop people from having fun (and getting laid), it simply means we should make room for others now and always so the true legend of St. Valentine does not die off with time.
Happy Valentines Day! God bless everyone...
Love should be an everyday affair, not just during the Valentine period alone.
I belive that valentine is the rememberance of a Saint who died for the course of love. By the way, anyone wanna be my val?

You are definitely right. Those in relationships should show love everyday and not just restrict it to February 14.
Wow! So February 14 is also Ash Wednesday? Thanks for this added information, I did not know before reading this.
