Societal degradation in the upcoming generation
There is this song we used to sing back then in school: parents listen to your children, we are the leaders of tomorrow, try to pay our school fees and give us sound education
Education starts from the home and poor home education usually results in poor performance in the society. Nowadays, we have young adults who are either confused about their priorities or worse still, have none at all.
When I was in the university, I would see young and vibrant young men who chose role models that in the real sense of it have no business modelling anyone.
If your role model is a chronic smoker or chimney as I like to call them, then you would tilt towards being a smoker yourself. We stop to wonder what is wrong with our generation when everything is just about preaching the wrong message.
A role model is someone you would hope to shape your life after, why shape it after someone whose life is a jail cycle? Why shape it after someone whose portfolio is filled with regular check ins into a mental institution?
I came across a lady who was desperately wishing she was a baby mama for a celebrity. Instead of wishing for a happy and stable home, she was already willing at a young age not to work hard to get her own sucess, rather, to piggy back off someone else's success.
There are so many baby mamas out there depending on someone else to spoon feed them and this is an insult to successful single women.
I had a chat with some people born in the 70's and 60's and I realized that back then, people prided themselves on what they hoped to achieve and the positive achievements of their role models.
Now, some just appoint one of the most crucial decision of their lives, which is choosing a role model to just about anybody and at the end of the day, have themselves to blame.
Taking a quick look at the high rate of sexually transmitted infections during unprotected sexual intercourse, we realize that such individuals contract it because of a subconscious message of "no safe sex" passed on by role models.
A celebrity is basically an individual with too many cameras stuck in front of the person and too many attention given to them. How many of their lifestyles are worthy of emulation?
You hear of celebrities knocking up ladies here and there and celebrities getting pregnant when it was totally unplanned and feeling overly proud about their actions, forgetting that there is a younger generation looking up to them and emulating their actions and voila, there is teenage pregnancy.
But are they really to blame? The society favors and promotes the culture of vices, sex traded for money, contracts, employment etc, the thing most artistes promote is violence as a solution to conflict, hence we see cultism and gang-starism on the increase, no more peaceful conflict resolution, it is war and blood with the young adults.
Some people want the quick life they see on the television that they forget that it's all fake, they sell their common sense for a lack of it. They result to pushing hard drugs,cyber crime, armed robbery and so many others to attain a false status and so many in a bid to imitate others end up six feet below.
So many talents and great mind rests six feet below because they failed to grasp that the only better version of you can be created by you and the role models which preaches or teaches you to be nude to attain fame is a disaster waiting to happen.
This is the generation for the young, if you fail to join the train, you might never get another.
This is true, but as much as we would like to blame the new generation for it's lack of morality, so to say. The older generation as a part it played in encouraging these degradations. The government for example run mostly by the old generation has failed today's generation immensely, and this degradation is just a consequence of such. The new generation did not get to enjoy the comfort and ease of social amenities the older generation enjoyed. In my opinion this degradation is inevitable in light of these ills
You're on point bro. I've been trying on my own to educate young ladies around me on emulating every action of a celebrity. Young people nowadays don't want to develop themselves. They prefer to copy the lifesyle of a celeb who like you said, "has too much attention given to him", whose lifestyle is not in any way worthy of emulation.

Its quite sad most of our children now choose celebrities as role models, afterall those are the people they come across frequently on tv gone are those days when children are sat down to watch news, tho even our news this days is filled with one bad news or another, parents really need to sit up what they need is to always sit their kids down and teach them those moral values like it is done in the old days, because we really cannot control or limit their exposure we can only teach them how and help them make the right choices. And for the baby mama trend its quite sad, our young ladies have really lost those true values that guide our gender, just because they do not want to strive and make money for them selves.

A lot of people don't even understand the word role model . They just see a successful person and wish to be like him without even following the laid down principles there idol or model has dropped 4 them to read... Iike the saying goes, if you want to hide something from a black man put it in writing.
You raised some really great points. I think it really depends on how you end up viewing the person as a role model though. People definitely will take role models too seriously and try to emulate everything they do, even if they are a celebrity. It can be difficult to find people that are perfect to follow so it usually is better to follow multiple people as role models, or at least that is how I did it growing up. I had strong role models that I knew in person, and there were some celebrities that I looked up to too that helped.
Education truly begins at home... What we go to get in college is certification..

Nowadays, most people love to take seven steps at a time and forgets that it's only possible to take a step at a time. It is not really how far one goes in life but how well one lives one's life.
Most of the acts were see on TV live the kind of life they dream of - especially in music videos and we tend to tune our thinking to that and want to be like them. In the real sense, they are not even what they portray. So sad 😔! #OWB
