A general musing into the life of an everyday African

Being an African is one of the best things to ever happen to a person. I know so many people might not agree with me on that but it is not everyday that you get to realize that your continent can turn your life around if you do what you are supposed to do.
That said, let me get straight to the point, I am not here to praise Africa, I am here to speak the truth.

Musings on the wrong mentality

One of the greatest life lessons I ever learned was that we should be careful whom we call our role models. So many young people have lost their way while trying to emulate the lifestyle of others. I see young, vibrant, independent women who want to be seen as strong so desperately, they end up being difficult to relate with. Similarly, I see young men who want to have it all before they can settle down. At the end, everything becomes nothing.

I will start from the ladies, when you use Oprah as your role model, how much about her do you know? She is a vibrant African American woman who is at the top of her game. When I see young ladies rebroadcasting quotes with her picture with inscriptions like "I don't need any man, I am independent" and trying to forcefully live their lives according to such, I stop and wonder if these people actually confirmed is she ever said such or how she meant it.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing in being independent, however, it is okay to accept help from time to time, it doesn't make you weak, it makes you flexible and a true leader.
For the guys, I see people wanting to get everything before thinking of settling down. Marriage is not a rush, however, two things come to mind:

  • What is the assurance that you will get everything?
  • Can you say how and when you will die?

This doesn't mean you should not work hard, but once you have the necessities to start a family don't let that amazing person slip by because you were too busy chasing everything. I know of cases where the lady will be enticed with the prospect of more money and at the end, what is to say the guy won't look outside once he gets it? Do you know why some of these sugar daddies look for ladies in their prime? It is because they realized that they missed those years and the money didn't solve all their problems. They now spend that same money to try and get those moments back.

Time doesn't wait for anyone at all, always remember that. The wrong mentality could land you in eternal regrets.

Musings on politics

The election is around the corner, congratulations, the same cycle of crooks are being recycled for us. I watched in utter disgust as young men sat around and were trying to prove how one crook was better than the other while we had people with good track records looking at us in the face.

Must we fall for the same thing every-time? Before we voted during the last election, I made one point clear; how can you vote someone based on campaign promises when you know his track records does not speak well. If someone who has served as a governor cannot transform his state, how can such a person transform a nation in four years? People believe so much in stomach infrastructure rather than infrastructural facilities. When we cannot hold people accountable for their actions, then lawlessness will triumph.

Truthfully, you cannot give what you don't have. You cannot expect a corrupt person, who has done nothing to fight corruption previously to come and tackle such a problem. Similarly, how do you expect democracy from a dictator? Until we see people for who they really are, we cannot progress as a nation. Someone promises stable power supply and his state is in darkness, someone promises good roads if he becomes and his hometown is in disarray. We must remember that charity begins at home.

Even some good leaders sometimes do allow people to contribute in their lives, affairs and decisions, not because they’re weak, no, not at all, it’s natural to our mutual coexistence!

there is nothing in being independent, however, it is okay to accept help from time to time, it doesn't make you weak, it makes you flexible and a true leader.

Thanks for such well expressed truth @ehiboss. I love Africa, let charity rule.
