As a 19 year old nursing student in Nigeria, Yinka Jegede-Ekpe contracted HIV through an unsanitary dental procedure. Rather than hiding in shame under the horribly negative stigma placed on the infected in her country, she decided to speak out. Now, as one the nation's visible AIDS activist, Jegede-Ekpe advocates for people living with HIV/AIDS, raises AIDS awareness nationwide, and educates the vulnerable - especially women, who make up three-quarters of those afflicted - about their risks and their rights.
Yinka Jegede-Ekpe believes women should not "sit and wait for other people to come out of the woodwork and solve their problems." Wanting to help combat the AIDS epidemic sweeping across her nation, she became the first woman in Nigeria to publicly declare her HIV status at the risk of being shunned or even killed by members of her community.
A person who is forthright and candid is honest without hesitation. This isn't always an easy type of person to be. Why do you think that is? What are some positive reasons to strive to become an honest individual?

Good to know people like Yinka Jegede-Ekpe still exist in Nigeria and are helping to fight the stigmatisation that comes with being HIV +ve.
