Daddy's Face (inspiration from the most high)

in #writting7 years ago

I was rehashing through some poems that have been written over a while and I came across this one.

Now imagine a scene of a father rocking his toddler asleep in his lap and arms in front of a fire place burning into the night in the darkened sleeping house.

A Child fallen asleep, but then the child awakes. And he has one of those moments you know, when as a toddler, one wakes in a forgetfulness in total oblivious of his whereabouts, and for a bear moment he feels so utterly alone.

Upon this happening he stirs in such a fright! His head shifts! Searching frantically for that familiar face, for Daddy's face as his memory returns. And when that realization hits, all becomes still, and he sees his Daddy's face. So he settles as he is again calm and at peace as he knows that he is safe and that he is not alone, and so he fades and drifts back into sleep.

All the while his Daddy never let go of him as he always held him secure, and he drinks his coffee in support of the fire's warmth in battling the cold night. It's a poem called "Daddy's Face"

Daddy’s Face

“Come unto Me…and I will give you Rest.”

~
A seated by the fire
All snuggled and tired
This child all alone
With the comforts of home
Covered in the blanket’s sheets
His eyes open, they peek
He awakes
His heart faints
He stirs
His heart increases its rate
He’s alone, where is daddy’s face?
The logs burn down and tighten
They burn as the room is brightened
He remembers, he looks up
He sees him, he drinks his coffee
He sees his daddy’s face
He’s rocked, he’s held, there is no feared foe
He never left daddy’s arms, he never let go
The boy ceased his stir, for he was sure
His daddy was true to his word
He believed, rested, and looked at the fire
He closed his eyes, and knew his nightmare’s worries
To be but only liars
